My previous post was mostly about why people blame Trump. I have no idea what Biden could have done better.

I'm fairly sure timely withdrawal in civilized manner wasn't on the table. He needed to triple the current troops to keep this timeline with mostly peaceful missile strikes to stop Taliban for advancing too fast.

I'm not sure how he was going to sell the public the need to bring in 10-50k Afghani refugees. 2500 sneaked in sounds about right.

I'm assuming the idea was to leave and the biggest risk to that was dead Americans on the ground. Getting overrun was always a real possibility.

Taliban will use missile strikes as an excuse, but they don't take it personally. They knew what they were doing when they started advancing. More ground troops, military bases getting filled or anything that doesn't look like a casual retreat they will feel some type of way.

Way it played out Taliban is actually behaving in an almost civil manner with only moderate amount of beheadings. As long as they believe they can achieve some legitimacy for their rule there's a chance Afganistan retains it's status as bottom tier shithole. If things work out they might even start aiming for mid tier.

Oh yea, withdrawal from Iraq is slated for this year as well. It might work out.
