Well when I hear Darner called a coward, there are 2 things. The ambushing of cops and the civilians. The civilian part muddies the argument. I am not going to bother to connect the dots too much, but I felt I had to address that. I've seen police chiefs call him a coward for shooting the other cops. Say WHAT. They're called tactics. I don't need to hear propaganda from some cop who should also be addressing why his force is opening fire on random civilians. You guys never address the difficult stuff, I do even if it doesn't help my case.

Quick story... I have a lot of vets come to my bar. A while back I had a kid that had just come back from his 2nd tour in Afghanistan. He had two older guys sitting next to him and we all got to talking. One of the old guys asked him "how was it for you over there?". His response was a very quick lesson on what not to ask a vet. He replied "man, I mean no offense by this, but that is the worst question you can ask. I had two of my best buddies killed right in front of me this last tour... I mean, how am I supposed to answer that? It fucking sucked."

Until you've been in one of these guys shoes I don't think you are really even qualified to judge their level of bravery.

So after reading your story. How about I tell you a story of a friend who was in a car wreck with someone who died. Someone aked them about it. They started relaying the story. Does that make them brave because shit happened to them? It is common sense people don't want to talk about such things. Your story goes nowhere. No one is arguing about how ugly war is. I think I might have a better idea than you guys and thats why I'm so against putting military up on a pedestal. Someone has to actually DO something selflessly to become a hero. Until then, they're not a hero in my eyes. They were someone doing their job. Yet you guys want to talk about how great the miltiary guys are, protecting our freedom, so the next generation of poor stupid kids can sign up to continue all this shit. The basic problem seems to be that you guys don't want to use cowardly properly.

From what I am reading, a guy like Tony Spilantro who went around offing people with a .22 to the dome would be considered cowardly by everyone arguing with me. I would disagree. That doesn't mean I would necessarily say he was brave. (Although he was brave in general) I just think if you are going to call people who do stuff like that cowardly, then it should be applied to a lot of people in a lot of situations. This includes a lot of stuff the military and law enforcement does. I'm sorry if this hurts everyone's feelings. All I was ever doing was using ShadyJ's definition of cowardly and applying it elsewhere. I actually respect shadyj and a few others in this thread and wanted to have a discussion with them.
