I know a US drone pilot. He volunteered for 2 trips through Iraq on the ground and was almost killed(up close) more than once. When he was deciding to leave the armed forces they asked him to join the drone program.

He had to learn to fly planes and was trying to give members of my family free flights to AC on small planes which they mostly rejected. After his service he got his regular pilots license he started training to become a drone pilot.

He doesn't sit in his little video game hanger thinking he is wiping out non-real life targets.

He had two older guys sitting next to him and we all got to talking. One of the old guys asked him "how was it for you over there?". His response was a very quick lesson on what not to ask a vet. He replied "man, I mean no offense by this, but that is the worst question you can ask. I had two of my best buddies killed right in front of me this last tour... I mean, how am I supposed to answer that? It fucking sucked."

Until you've been in one of these guys shoes I don't think you are really even qualified to judge their level of bravery.

By putting war and all vets up on some pedestal you are ENABLING future situations. So after reading your story. How about I tell you a story of a friend who was in a car wreck with someone who died. Someone aked them about it. They started relaying the story. Does that make them brave because shit happened to them? It is common sense people don't want to talk about such things. Your story goes nowhere. No one is arguing about how ugly war is. I am not going to bother to connect the dots too much, but I felt I had to address that. I've seen police chiefs call him a coward for shooting the other cops. Say WHAT. They're called tactics. I don't need to hear propaganda from some cop who should also be addressing why his force is opening fire on random civilians. You guys never address the difficult stuff, I do even if it doesn't help my case.
