How could it ever backfire? They've already got worldwide publicity for paying out on bets they were expecting to pay out on anyway, and if Trump wins, they'll get twice as much when they pay those bets off. PaddyPower does publicity shit like this all the time. If a game ends weird because of an extra shitty ref's call, they pay off both sides, and get articles written about them all around the world.

They probably realized that they didn't have a huge amount wagered on Trump yet, or less than their ad budget for the next few months wagered, anyway.

true, but trump is so uniquely awful as a candidate that it's hard to blame them. politics aside, his campaign is built on fear mongering and appealing to humanity's worse instincts. we've never seen anything like this, at least in our life times.

trump's new campaign strategy is to tell people that the election is rigged and that if he loses, it will only be because of widespread election fraud. it's not an exaggeration to say that what he's doing is the worst thing to ever happen to american politics. he's actually trying to delegitimize the US government. it's fucking unbelievable to me that trump supporters don't think what he's doing is not just wrong, but dangerous.
