i called my doc today and told the receptionist i relapsed and needed a new script for 50mg/day to stabalize myself, so i can work and not have to worry about being dopesick
she said they would call if there was any problem (otherwise it would be ready for me to pickup tomorrow)
well, they never called back so tomorrow i can go pick up the script and hopefully find a pharmacy to fill it
this will be a huge step towards starting to live a normal life again, and not have to struggle daily with being dopesick (or the fear of being dopesick)
it sucks after all these years weaning myself down to just 10mg per day, and having to take such a big step back, but at this point it really is my best option

Never tried heroin, but I've taken weaker hydrocodone pills after surgeries a long while back (mostly Vicodin and Tylox, Percocet once).
Just from taking the pills I can get some vague idea why people might get hooked on the dope so badly.
There's a raging heroin epidemic in the US now and a brand new center is being opened this month right in St. Louis (south county off of I-55) specifically designed to deal with opiate addiction.
Maybe check this place out when you have some free time and see if they can help get you off that final 10-50 mg when you're ready? Looks like they won't force anyone to do any inpatient stuff so you can focus on your job.

This is why he's kind of stuck. A clinic will take you up to 50mg and beyond, but they can't just take your word for it. They start a person on like 3mg daily and slowly titrate them up at a rate they are comfortable dispensing until a person stabalizes. To get to 50 is probably a month or two during which people have to use while increasing or they'll simply be sick still. Once they reach a stable dose it's fine, but the run up for the first weeks for someone using is essentially worthless. You're still going to need to use heroin in addition to methadone.
That's why the only play that made sense was falling on the mercy of a doctor who he already had a relationship with, because that guy is taking a huge gamble to take your word for it. He needs to trust you're not suicidal, or working him and simply going to sell them and continue to use, etc.
Methadone is super dangerous to a person who isn't already prescreened opiate tolerant by their own addiction. It's unlike oxy's and other heavy duty narcotics because those are generally out of your bloodstream when they quit working. Methadone is still in your system long after you've quit feeling it's effects. It scares the shit out of doctors and kills a ton of recreational users because they take a pill, it wears off, so they take another not understanding that there is a compounding effect because the previous dose is still in your system. So doctors err on the super conservative side when starting someone out. Methadone is actually a fantastic pain medication for chronic pain suffererers without addiction issues, because once they find the sweet spot, it works for years without needing to be raised, but it's so dangerous at the start that most pain manageent doctors are too afraid to use it for liability reasons. It's only generally used when someone with chronic pain has ridden the conventional Oxy train up so high that they really can't go any further. At that point, the doctor knows the patient has a huge opiate tolerance already and can go from 4 80mg oxy's to 40mg of methadone and a patient might be fine on that same level for years because of the way methadone stays in the system. For Willie though, it's also why he hesitated to come off that last 10. Kicking methadone is a much longer process than kicking heroin because of how it stays in system. So the same thing that makes it work so well works against you when coming off.
Had he been in a clinic, he likely would have kicked, because in liquid form they can go from 10 to 9 to 8 because it's auto filled with a calibrated machine, but he was on a script for pills from a doctor, and there aren't 10mg pills, then 9mg pills, etc. it's probably a 10 to a 5, and that drop is brutal, which is why he likely lingered and it came back to bite him in the ass when he fucked up and found himself without.
