Haha yeah. Let me try to predict the future here: They come out saying Harvin could be back by like week 10, they PUP him, he gets angry at their demands for his rehab and goes home to Florida, he gets put on IR, gets traded to JAX next offseason for a 4th round pick.

Could be, but right now I'm more worried about Zach Miller's foot than Percy Harvin's hip.

Harvin had hip surgery. Looks like he's done for awhile.

Can you please explain to me why Vince Young was cut? He was fantastic against the Seahawks and looked to be a lock to make the team.

Same old shit with the attitude problems?

Saying Vince young looked good just tells you how pathetic GBs backup qb situation is. I have no clue the only thing I know is if Rodgers goes down I hope its early so we can get a high draft pick. A sportscaster here said it best when GB had Young, Coleman, and Harrell. He said the Packers best backup qb is Randall Cobb.

SEAHAWKS WIN A GAME LIKELY LOST A YEAR AGO

Despite taking the worst beating of his pro career, QB Russell Wilson had a 300-yard day. But the 12-7 win over Carolina belonged to defense and special teams.

Russell Wilson had his first 300-yard regular-season game as a pro Sunday in Carolina. / Drew Sellers, Sportspress Northwest file

    SCOREBOARD, BABY

    Seahawks (1-0) 12, Carolina Panthers (0-1) 7.

    TERSE TRUTH

The Seahawks won on the road, in the Eastern time zone, in southern sticky heat against a team that was superbly prepared to stop QB Russell Wilson and RB Marshawn Lynch. The game was left to the defense and special teams, and they responded by holding Carolina’s passing game to 119 yards, keeping QB Cam Newton in check, punting and kicking well and getting a game-saving, red-zone turnover on Carolina’s final possession.

    FISTS TO SKY

    • Wilson made the equivalent of a full-court basketball shot in the third quarter when he avoided a sack at least twice and, almost 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage, flung the ball off his back foot a moment before he was splattered. About 50 yards later along the sideline, Doug Baldwin grabbed the ball over a defender and came down barely in bounds. The improbable play set up a field goal that closed Carolina’s lead to 7-6.

    • With less than six minutes remaining, Carolina RB D’Angelo Williams broke free for a 13-yard run to a first down inside the Seahawks 10-yard line. But FS Earl Thomas, who missed him earlier, caught up from behind and knocked the ball free. The fumble was recovered by DT Tony McDaniel. The Seahawks offense burned up the clock’s final 5:35.

    • In the fourth quarter, one play after WR Stephen Williams couldn’t hang on to what would have been a 40-yard pass and near-touchdown, Wilson went back to the same streak-play route. This time, WR Jermaine Kearse went over the top of a defender at the 3-yard line for the catch and tumbled into the end zone for the Seahawks’ only touchdown.

    PALMS TO FOREHEAD

    • Pass protection, a problem throughout camp and preseason, remains unresolved. Wilson took his worst beating as a pro with two sacks, six hits and 11 hurries. On Seattle’s first play, Wilson was nearly sacked in the end zone for a safety, before getting rid of the ball. In the third period, Seattle’s OL had two holding penalties on the same play. A part of the protection problem may have to do with rookies at tight end (Luke Willson) and fullback (Derrick Coleman), but Carolina created a blueprint for how to keep Wilson contained in the pocket to limit his explosiveness on rollouts.

    • Continuing their felonious ways from the preseason, the Seahawks had nine penalties for 109 yards. Two that seemed to be fatal were in Carolina’s final possession, which looked to be sustained by a face-mask penalty on DT Michael Bennett, nullifying a tackle for loss, and SS Kam Chancellor’s late-to-the-pile personal foul. A Panthers turnover killed the drive, otherwise Carroll would have to consider waterboarding Bennett and Chancellor.

    • No surprise, given all the personnel absences, but the Seahawks didn’t get much pressure on Newton. Newcomer DE O’Brien Schofield had the lone sack, for minus-six yards. But the secondary didn’t give Newton many downfield options except to run, which he did five times for 38 yards. Health permitting, DEs Cliff Avril and Chris Clemons may return next week.

    WOE TO FOE

Special teams gunner Armond Smith was penalized twice for going out of bounds on Carolina punts. The second one in the fourth quarter prompted a televised rebuke from teammate Steve Smith on the sidelines. For good reason: The Seahawks accepted the penalty, received a re-kick, and PR Golden Tate improved the field position from the 8-yard line to the 26-yard-line, from where they began the drive to the game-winning touchdown.

    WILSON!

The first 300-yard, regular-season game of his pro career seemed most unlikely, given the beating he took. But he was 25 for 33 for 320 yards and one turnover, when he was strip-sacked into a fumble in the red zone. But he led the sixth fourth-quarter comeback of his young career primarily by finding the underneath routes the defense gave him, and eluding multiple sack attempts.

On the TD pass to Kearse: “We called another shot play. It surprised we missed the first one (to Williiams). Maybe I threw it too far. I just kind of read the (Kearse) play. I went through my progressions and he was the second option. Kearse just keeps showing up and making those big plays.”

On finding just enough plays at the right time: “The biggest thing is the small things.”

On the sideline bomb to Doug Baldwin before he was clobbered: “I figured nobody was going to get to it, but I tried to get him a chance. I knew I was getting blown up. Doug has a great ability to create and make the smart decisions on third down. Biggest thing we worked on (in the off-season) is having that camaraderie. In the second half (of last season), he was lights out.”

On completing so many passes in tight windows: “The biggest thing I’ve learned is to trust what you you see. Going against our DBs in practice — they’re the best in the NFL –makes you realize how tight the windows can be.”

On returning to the the state where he spent his first three years of college ball at North Carolina State: “I’ve had so much support here, from the day I first stepped on campus. I’ll never forget NC State and all the people who’ve helped me.”

    CARROLLING

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on Newton: “We gave him a chance to be in command early, but we hung in there real tight against him. He made some nice plays, but we wanted to stay connected to him.”

On the red zone troubles: “We had troubles with penalties and a turnover. It was really hard today. The thing I love about our guys is they hung tough. It’s so hard. I thought Carolina played excellent. It was a quality win for us.”

On Wilson: “After the first five or six passes, he was on fire. He made a ton of plays. Finding Doug on the sidelines, that was a ridiculous play. . . . Russell did a great job against the pass rush. He’s more in command of everything we’re doing. We don’t have to hold anything back. He can handle it.”

On Thomas forcing the turnover: “No one takes more pride in knocking the ball loose. They had a lot of momentum. It was a gigantic play for us.”

On the largely absent running game: “We didn’t feel good at all the way we ran the football. We thought we would be better than that. We tried everything. Carolina was very active and difficult.”

On the offensive line: “I don’t think anyone did well up front.”

    A NUMBER OF THINGS

    • WR Doug Baldwin: 9 catches, 71 yards.

    • RB Marshawn Lynch: 43 yards on 17 rushes, but last carry was his longest, 14 yards, biggest because it was for a first down that kept Seattle in possession until the gun sounded.

    • Seahawks rushers: 26 for 70.

    • P John Ryan: four for 49.5 average. A big help in a field-position game.

    THE CLOSER

The Seahawks won ugly in Charlotte a year ago, 16-12, but they lost two close games earlier by not finding a key third down offensively, or failing to a key third-down stop defensively. This time, just enough. Winning a grinder on the road at the outset, in adverse conditions, was a great omen for Seattle for the 2013 season.

We were all shocked by Wilson's line, to a man we were thinking 15-26 for 200 and 1td or something similar. The kid is impressive, he was mediocre/shitty in the 1st half and just kept his cool and never made the big mistake.

I told my bro in the 2nd quarter that that the thing about Wilson is we never really have to worry about him. He can fuck up, make mistakes, but when we need him he's going to make the play when it counts and that's exactly what he did.

Dude is cool, old cucumber-head they call him.

They eeked out a victory over a terrible Carolina team. A team they shouldn't of had to come back against in the 4th quarter. Sure, a win is a win. But beating Carolina by 5 while scoring 12 points is nothing to get excited about. Especially given the sky high expectations.

If you wanna gloat or get excited about this season, wait until after next week when they play the 49ers. They're at home in one of the most important games of their season. That game will be very telling as to where that season is headed. I expect a 49er win, even with the home crowd advantage Seattle will have. They got their assholes ripped apart last time they were here. They will want revenge. Bend over Russ, Pete, and the entire Seattle crowd, you gonna get raped.

Eagerly awaiting your "We'll get em in December next time they play each other" post.

I pretty much agree with this.

A lot of teams that were expected to win easily came very close to losing. The Colts needed a huge 19 yard TD run from Luck to win. He's not considered a running QB, but he made guys miss tackles on that run. We will see if Terrelle Pryor has a great season or if the Colts just made him look good. The Patriots needed a last second FG against the Bills. Almost everyone in my survival weekly winner pool took one of those games or Tampa Bay.

When the Chargers got called for a roughing the snapper penalty on a field goal, and allowed the Texans to score a TD, I said to myself "I hope for that guy's sake that this game isn't decided by 4 points."

Seattle will beat SF. Harbough is the biggest fuckin idiot in the world.

When Mike McCarthy was asked about what Harbough had to say his response like always we'll be above that.

The fuckin Deuche actually said Matthews should be a man and punch a guy wearing a helmet with his fists instead of a slap. Does he know how fuckin stupid that sounds.

I believe every word the Seahawks said about him beeping and waiving at them last year or whatever it was that he denied he did.

LOL, I'm sure you are just bitter over the current Niners dominance over the Packers. Harbaugh is becoming the "new Belichick" in a way, working with what he has on his team and just outsmarting the other teams.

Case in point is that recent history with the Packers. Niners ran a rather vanilla offense the last couple weeks of the regular season last year, then went read-option for the whole playoff game vs packers, and dominated. Packers spend all offseason studying how to defend the read-option, and SF comes out this week and beat them with a vanilla offense.

The way he acts has nothing to do with who won the game. I actually had my biggest bet on SF. The guy is just a complete moron.

Your 2nd point just remember that SF only had 2 weeks to prepare the read option and home field because of the fail mary.

They didnt beat them with a vanilla offense. They won beacuse they threw the ball well when GB took away their running game. Its not like they didnt run the pistol they just werent succesful running the ball. Most novice fans think the read option is about the qb keeping the ball and running for alot of yards, but that will only work if the up the middle running game works. GB took away the middle running game which in turn shut down the read option. If only they could have stopped Boldin who made unbelievable catches and was just unstoppable.

This is just not true. He had the best team on paper by far and didnt win the Super Bowl. Belicheck could win the Super Bowl in his sleep with that team. At some point people have to realize Harbough just isnt a very good coach or everyones wrong and his team isnt full of all pros. Do not put his name in the same sentence with BB until hes won something. Thats just outrageous.

Is Seahawks coach Pete Carroll a 9/11 truther? That all depends: Does badgering a former four-star general about whether 9/11 was real make one a truther?

Here's what happened, according to a couple sources: Late last spring, retired general Peter Chiarelli, who had just finished his term as the Army's vice chief of staff, visited Carroll at the Seattle Seahawks headquarters. Chiarelli was expecting a pleasant meeting. After all, the pair had what important businesspeople tend to call synergies: Chiarelli—who grew up in Seattle—is a big Seahawks fan. His post-military work concerns traumatic brain injury research, a cause of some significance to the NFL. And both have plenty of experience leading groups of men on grand American stages.

The sit-down between Chiarelli and Carroll started off normally enough. They talked about the team, and then about head trauma. Chiarelli, who commanded the American forces in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II, talked about the brain injuries he had seen there. But Chiarelli's mention of Iraq sent Carroll in another direction: He wanted to know if the September 11 attacks had been planned or faked by the United States government.

In particular, Carroll wanted to know whether the attack on the Pentagon had really happened. Chiarelli—who was the top-ranking Army official inside the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into its western side—explained that it had. He said he had lost many colleagues. But Carroll didn't stop there. He ran through the whole 9/11 truther litany.

"Every 9/11 conspiracy theory you can think of, Pete asked about," said Riki Ellison, the former NFL linebacker who now runs the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance and introduced Carroll to Chiarelli. Ellison, along with Seahawks offensive line coach Pat Ruel, was at the meeting as well. "And he didn't stop at 9/11—he had lots of questions about the role of the military today." (Carroll does seem to have some fondness for the military. He lectured at a military-sponsored "conference on small unit excellence" in 2009, and last year Ellison connected him with Army soldiers at Camp Carroll in Korea.)

Carroll isn't crazy, Ellison said. He's just skeptical. "Pete grew up in California during Vietnam, and during Watergate. That's just the perspective he brings to the table."

So did the discussion last year turn hostile? A source close to Chiarelli, one who wasn't present when he spoke to Carroll, told us that it did. He said the general had to leave the room because Carroll had rankled him so thoroughly. Ellison told us that that wasn't true, that the discussion had remained friendly and "fun" throughout. A spokesman for Chiarelli at his foundation, One Mind for Research, did not respond to repeated phone and email requests.

Ellison said Carroll did only what anyone else would do: "Pete had a four-star general in the room, one of the army's top guys. Why wouldn't you push the envelope?"
