You can't ensure it won't happen again.

But here's what should be changed:

    1) Weaken police unions, make it way easier to fire problem officers, require a national registry of officers fired for disciplinary reasons, and a requirement for all departments to consult that registry prior to any hiring.

    2) City officials need to predict when certain viral incidents are going to cause widespread anger/panic and act quickly to calm people down. Minneapolis dragged their feet big time.

    3) Define what can NOT occur at a "peaceful protest", and make everyone aware that they will be arrested for these things. Then arrest them when this stuff happens, before things get out of hand. Such behaviors should include: Road blocking (uness they have a permit to do so), inhibiting others' free movement, throwing objects, assault, vandalism, arson, and looting.
no no no, this makes too much sense, the dems will never do any of it.

Take road blocking off the list, add mandatory body cams turned on at all times for police officers, and you've got a deal.

A protest that gets big, even completely peaceful, will swell to the size where roads are blocked and it's not really practical to stop it.

    i have a question.

if those people that were blocking off the highway ever came across an equal if not more unstable person, or one with the exact opposite of hate in his car, and their answer was to panic and run them over, or run them over because they're fkd up, would a honda civic make it through many peeps going over 50 mph or would the peeps get stuck in the axles and undercarriage rendering the car useless so the rest of the mob can pull him out and beat him to death like the zombies do in the movies?

so you're saying the axles won't get clogged with too many arms and a few shoulders. not to mention heads in the wheel well. essentially creating a superglue effect?

i've run over ropes with my lawn mower and the lawn mower is no match..

    Those people are fucking animals.

So my question to you is, what's going to be done to ensure this doesn't happen again?
That’s an impossible question. There are 800k LE officers in the various agencies across the US. When this occurred there was like 80 black men killed on that date, which was roughly halfway. Let’s assume 20% were straight up killed, that’s 35-40 or whatever too many, but how do you completely eliminate that?

What would you do that wouldn’t defang police to a level where more black people die from crime than are killed by police due to a neutered response? I think that’s very likely already occurring, but remove the police and it’s going to explode.

You can’t break up the union without it resulting in a lower paid and less qualified guy than already in place. Some type of community oversight that is actually effective is clearly somewhere close, but I assume already implemented. Most larger cities already have some form of that.

The strange part of this is that it’s unrest more suited for an acquittal. I said to kill this dude in the town square the first day because you could see this was different and it was going to spread nationally and idk how many deaths and billions we are at now.

The problem has been the historical acquittals. That’s where everyone leaps to mentally. It’s like he already walked.

They better Epstein this guy, because you think Covid raised gun sales, imagine this guy opting for a weeks long jury trial.

To me the only thing that can address this thing is on the court level. The police are militarized, and it’s not cool, but I think any solve ends up with a far higher body count for every race that outweighs the police killings that aren’t justified. What good is an extra 2000 murders, many who will be completely innocent to save a 100 bad kills a year?

I was thinking of how do you fix this issue. There needs to be some mechanism that kicks all police killings to a federal judicial branch made up of like 4 white people, 4 Black people, 4 Hispanic people.

The police kill roughly 1000 people a year for any reason from what I can see. 80-90% are going to be from domestic disputes or some crazy person and won’t be in dispute by any party. Let some lower court review those and kick them back to the state level to deal with and oversee the few hundred at most that are questionable

I think the problem lies in the acquittals. I’m sure that’s some huge constitutional issue that would need addressed, but it should be. This issue makes people lose their collective minds over a number that isn’t a big number in the large scheme of things. Take the friendly jury out of the equation. I think it also makes police less apt to do something like this if you’re facing a federal jury.

I had kinda put the protests on the back burner BCR.

You reawakened me with the prospect of a trial or acquittal. Dear Lord. Somebody needs to reach out to Hillary again.

While Druff has latched on to the unions I think you and I are closer with the failure of prosecutors to want to engage the police.

Again, prosecutors and the police are normally team mates. They need to work together with evidence etc etc. The process kinda doesn’t work as constructed. Never has. Cops get off.

I don’t know what the solution is except an attack dog on staff at the state level. Someone who is literally willing to take a bullet. Good luck with the courage thing. Hollywood has made numerous movies about this shit.

That the police don’t get charged or punished isn’t a union issue. I’m kinda thinking $12/hr cops or subcontracting Police isn’t the correct road either.

And there is 4 of them. From what I read, two are like straight out of the academy where a jury might understand why they deferred to a superior and the one guy is the one who suggested they roll him onto his side to assist his breathing, but these riots are when those other two guys might possibly be overcharged given their lack of experience and one attempting to somewhat intervene. When I read the accounts, he seemed far else culpable than the others. Good luck explaining that to the mob if he is given any leniency.

If that main guy walked, you’re talking full on destabilization and civil/race war and I don’t think that’s hyperbole.

i don't think it will tear through everything like you think. you have to consider engine size, ground clearance and speed. the engine won't stop or seize unless something is punctured or the wheels won't spin and you hit ludicrous rpm's.

i don't see a honda civic making it trough several hundred people if they're lined up a certain way

Buckle up when the defense gets the trial moved out of Minneapolis to some 95% white population like Kasson MN or some shit when they argue there is no way to get an impartial jury in Minneapolis.

i don't know about that. i've been stuck on wet grass on a slight slope before and i was helpless. not to mention not being able to drive in deep snow or thick mud.

seems logical enough that body parts can easily jam stuff up once it gets messed up

I tuned out when I learned Chauvin and Floyd worked security at the same club.

They knew each other. This wasn’t purely racial profiling by Chauvin.

In my opinion the protestors and the rest of us are just triggered having already been in a bad frame of mind for a half dozen reasons.

You meet so many nice folk while waiting in the long lines at the gun counters though. I have learned a lot about home dentistry.

    ‘Merica

Will the trial be televised in Minnesota? This is a whole new element I completely whiffed on. Who needs sports?

I think your bigger problem might be a few smash through your windshield hitting them at that speed or even end up lodged through the window to the point it disrupts visibility and you crash and then they kill you like the zombies.

That’s what happens not infrequently when people hit deer. I’ve never heard of deer getting lodged up under a car traveling at that speed. Most just bounce off. The first wave you hit feel like they could end up through your windshield before they start start scattering and just glancing off your car as you pass.

Idk the law there. If it’s permissive, it will be nationally televised. That might be a case where national security gets involved and nixes it. I think it’s Rodney King x 50. You might get riots during defense days if they seem to be going badly for the prosecution. Live betting opportunities.

It’s like gambling. The worst thing that can happen to you is winning the first time you go to the track.

Same with looting, I trust. You’re always gonna chase that big score. You just need half an excuse to go back.

    It’s still spring training technically.

I’ll definitely be betting this shit live. Might take LA preflop though, USF.

you keep bringing up lawn mowers, do you realize how much horse power your shitty Toyota has?

    MORE THAN A LAWN MOWER

and your car doesn't have a giant blade underneath it to get clogged up
