Trying to weigh my desire for this con to be real vs the Trump is nuts debate. I believe he is not an idiot. There is no evidence that he is a fool in his business life. He takes shots. He is full of promotion and bluster. Not stupid. Not afraid to fail. Like a poker player, he knows he will lose some hands. That's how successful entrepreneurs and adults live life.
I think he is at a bit of a loss as to how to close this out. The initial outrageousness of this play certainly must have captured his entire focus. His success surprised him. He has already won and he never planned this spot. He must have expected circumstances to end things for him.
