Drk, all you do is post about how horrible Chicago is. If you hate it so much, fucking move.

MumblesBadly: If all fairness, the "white flight" to the suburbs helps to impoverish the inner city neighborhoods. Add the perverse incentives of the War on Drugs, and you have a cocktail for violent gangs running wild and police corruption and brutality... Shit!

    Gallo,

Im starting to think that you may be onto something regarding the CPD. What if we just armed all the cops with guns that shoot confetti and silly string?

What it should tell you is that under these current conditions, you can expect crime to continue to rise, and no real way to effectively "turn back the clock".

The new rules are here. The criminals are taking full advantage, and the police are going to do only what they are required to do and nothing more, while trying to make it home alive at the end of the day. When they finally give up and/or quit, the next applicants for this job will be filled with folks less experienced, not as educated (those people dont want this job anymore) and you get lower quality people armed with guns, more prone to making mistakes, and the cycle will get worse.

The article didn't make the police look very good. Some things I found funny:

Our tour begins at six in the evening in the roll call room at the 77th Street Station, where our watch commander informs us on the latest crime trends and instructs us on the methods the department’s upper chain of command would wish to see employed to address them. These instructions are soon forgotten
Always a good idea to ignore what your boss tells you and not employ the methods you are taught.

After roll call we are issued our required gear and tackle, including shotguns, Tasers, fresh batteries for our radios, and keys for our black-and-white. Thus equipped, we load up and head out into the night to see what awaits. But, as little can be accomplished on an empty stomach, we stop to fortify ourselves at one of the fast-food establishments near the campus of the University of Southern California.
What's the first thing you do when you get to work.....take a break. You could have eaten before work, but you wouldn't have gotten paid for it.

Properly nourished, we are ready to get down to some serious police work.
As we drive slowly along 83rd Street, we see gathered near the entrance to an alleyway just east of Avalon a few members of the local street gang, one of whom is perhaps responsible for killing Jermaine Murray.
What do we do? We drive on
Good thing they are properly nourished, driving takes a lot out of a person.

He then goes on to explain how police are so scared of getting in trouble, they don't do their job. Then he throws this out there:

Change the particulars and the same principles apply to almost any city you can name.
So all cops behave like this? They are all too scared to do their job? That's a pretty bold statement. I've heard from police (yes, I have police friends DRK) that as long you handle things the way you are trained, you shouldn't have to worry about ending up in the media, and that they aren't scared to do their job.

Ignoring protocol instructions from one's boss and immediately taking a break once on the job are both lazy motherfucking asshat moves. But not confronting some gang members because one of them is *perhaps* responsible for a crime isn't out of line. Without a credible documented tip about identity of the killer, the police don't have "probable cause" to make that contact. Because "perhaps" only is grounds for a harassment suit.

Cops do it all the time. Investigate suspicious behavior. I would say a group of known gang members gathered at the entrance of an alley is suspicious.

Perhaps before civil rights of citizens the cops didnt like weren't worth spit. But unless they have *reasonable* suspicious of a crime being committed -- and merely meeting at the entrance to an alley is NOT a crime -- the cops who followed your prescription rightly would be subject to a harassment charge.

their bosses, particularly in Chicago, are trying to get them to go out and make stops (illegal now, since they arent supposed to have secret quotas), so, um, yeah...most of the cops are telling their bosses to fuck off. Why should a cop go out and follow their bosses directions when these bosses wont have their backs if shit goes south? They tell the bosses to put their commands on paper instead of verbally, and the bosses wont, obviously. Fuck them.

In Chicago, you have to call in and let OEMC (dispatchers) know when you take your "lunch". No clue how LA does it. If you get a call during your lunch, tough shit. Grab it and toss it in the back seat.

"scared" is not the correct word. They dont want to get in trouble for doing things that they cant do anymore, or arent supposed to do anymore under the new rules. They used to get aggressive and try to stop people from selling drugs, and stop people for minor traffic violations, and break up gatherings on corners where known drug dealers would hang out. Why the fuck should they do that anymore, when lawyers will now sue them, and their bosses wont back them? Fuck that. You put a system in place, now you get to fucking live with it. They arent going to do the city's dirtywork, and then get sued and lose everything because corrupt politicians and shitty police bosses want to get cushy jobs at the top and then place all the blame on the lowly cops, trying to protect people.

You will now get cops who respond to calls, and carefully follow their rules, as have been set forth by the ACLU and head of police, and the reverends, and civil leaders. If you want them to go back to tough policing, it will take a fucking miracle at this point, and require Republican leadership, booting out the ACLU, telling the shitty lawfirms to fuck off, telling Jesse and Sharpton to eat dicks and essentially, educating the public on how they were doing just fine before, had it not been for a small segment of the community and a small handful of shitty cops, (and some very biased media who need you to watch their shitty channels and read their shitty websites), and to let the cops be cops and protect people by coming down hard in the violent communities.

Good luck getting to that point. Chicago will burn first. Its the largest city right now in the US where they have the most people moving and getting the fuck outta dodge.

An article in US News, which also ran in today's LA Times, seems to agree that Chicago's cops are being cautious, and for that reason, gang violence with increased shooting deaths is up significantly the last two years.

to make things worse, the blacks high up in political power, are stating that the jails are too full of blacks, so they are opening up the prisons/jails and letting people go. Most of the cops that were shot last month were shot by thugs who may have only served 20% of their terms.

Look at the article above, and read at the bottom how many times that one guy has been arrested, and look at the far right to see what happened to his charges.

    fucking joke

So you expect me to believe that of the blacks they are going to let out most likely charged with low level drugs crimes they are also going to let out guys who were charged with attempted murder of cops?

Also, you are a super mong. You love cause-effect when it comes to cops losing their morale and crime going up. Why did they lose their morale in the first place? They were shit bag losers being punks. the public turned against them. That's why.

You are basically pleading the case that cops should be allowed to continue to be shit bag punks, because if they aren't allowed then crime goes up. Maybe that's true for reported crime, but I bet unreported cop crime is down. Idiot.

    DESTROYED.

to make things worse, the blacks high up in political power, are stating that the jails are too full of blacks, so they are opening up the prisons/jails and letting people go.

Idiot.

    DESTROYED.
Where are you from? Any law abiding citizen in the chicago area would much prefer the cops do w/e the fuck they have to do to keep these assholes in line vs the alternative which is going nuts and causing mayhem nonstop(as if they don;t cause enough mayhem as is) You ever been to the west side of chicago? If not take a walk down there sometime with the wife and kids and see how it goes.Your opinion might change after they run a train on your wife and beat your brains in.

Harris' criminal history includes 43 arrests going back to at least 2004, including five felony and two misdemeanor convictions, according to police and court records. His most recent felony conviction was in January 2012 for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer causing injury. Records show he was sentenced to four years in prison in that case.

Please refrain from opening your fucking mouth again, in one of my threads. You are a complete imbecile. I never said what you quoted, but yeah, they are letting VIOLENT AND DANGEROUS FELONS out of the jails extremely early, here in Chicago. Who is the "Super Mong"?....

Even after 40 arrests, he was sentenced in Jan of 2012 to FOUR YEARS, which meant he should have gotten out in Jan of 2016. However, when the cops were trying to arrest him last month, he was fighting a felony drug case after his arrest last year on the South Side while in possession of 37 Ecstasy pills, police said. SO, he was let out early from the four year sentence, and got arrested AGAIN and was trying to fight THAT case. <sigh>
