I know 4Dragons already posted this, but now it's on YouTube, so it's easier to watch.
I have to say that I'm disappointed in Oliver here. While I often disagree with him, I respect his humor and presentation of the material. He usually makes a convincing argument.
This time he airballed it.
He attacked Trump for receiving $7 million worth of grassroots donations. Huh? Isn't that supposed to be a good thing? Isn't that the sort of campaign funding that Bernie Sanders is championing? Besides, $7 million is very little for a Presidential campaign, anyway.
He also spent a good few minutes on some petty Twitter argument as to whether or not Trump was really invited on the John Oliver show. Trump claims he was, and turned it down. Oliver claims he was never invited. Who gives a shit? And Oliver presents this as "proof" that Donald Trump lies, while at the same time failing to even prove that his people never called Trump. How can Oliver be certain that one of his people didn't make a hail-Mary attempt to get Trump on the show at some point, and is now denying it? In any case, if that's Oliver's best example of Trump lying, then he just proved that Trump IS an honest guy (which I don't even believe he is).
This more looked like an exercise in Oliver's people analyzing every word The Donald has ever uttered, and then finding any petty inconsistency to jump upon.
Which is too bad, because there's a lot to expose/lampoon/clarify regarding Trump, and Oliver dropped the ball by declining into pettiness.
