I highly doubt they ever go after the end user. They will just take out the sites like tvaddons.

I've never heard of that happening to date. Healthy skepticism is healthy though.

I've had an android box with xbmc/kodi for a year and half.
Love it. All sports, all porn, all movies, all the time.
Its an MX8, similar to gauchojake's unit.

The laws on watching a stream (a performance) are a lot different than torrents where you have to participate in the distribution to get the file.

Kodi is media center software that you can install on almost any OS. If you think of your Roku, it's the opening screen where you can add channels, go to your current channels and watch content, play pandora etc. Kodi is open source, so lots of people develop channels to deliver content. You add "add-ons" like you would a Roku channel. It just so happens that many of the channels aggregate pirated content from streaming websites and present it in a convenient Netflix-like interface. If you've ever used Popcorn time, it's like that on steroids.

You can download it to your laptop and play around with it pretty easily.

Hi, I'm clueless too. Are these channels generally using bittorrent under the hood like Popcorn Time does? I got spooked on using torrents recently (for TV/movies, that is) after receiving a warning from my ISP. I considered getting a VPN, but I'm too ignorant to appraise and price out the different services. It's also hard to justify paying a lot per month just to use torrents when there's only a few things I want to get that aren't available on Netflix.

I believe the content is aggregated from streaming sites and most of the popular add ons are not torrent clients although I am sure those exist.

This has nothing to do with BitTorrent -- Kodi (used to be called XMBC) is software that can stream all kinds of media via add-ons and plugins.

Fusion/Config Wizard are a set of plugins (used to be called XBMC-HUB) available at TVaddons.ag that turn Kodi into a front end for all the locker sites that host every TV show and Movie known to man.

I use the other Kodi add-ons a lot - the TWIT-TV one, the Ultimate Guitar one, VIMcasts, etc.

The amount of content is staggering. There are live streams of every network in pretty much every 1st world country. There are add-ons that just stream the same shows over and over. There are web-cam plug ins, porn plug-ins, you name it. Live sports, archived MMA, whatever.

The whole thing is a mess, name changes of software, convoluted installs, shitty mouses, etc. But if you power through it the results are content nirvana.

I know the locker sites have a profit motive, but so far the XBMC-HUB programmers seem to do it for the love of it - there are no ads or pop-ups. They just manage to stream the locker sites to your device, sans ads and malware. It's searchable, curated and even has subtitles.

The community around it is hardcore. It's almost like they are eternally pissed off at all the $$ Hollywood makes and they are on a mission to make sure everyone has access to everything, at all times, for free.

how good is kodi with streaming ppvs? say the average UFC or boxing ppv. A lot of the streaming sites are starting to use the "pls turn off your adblocker" message, which never ends well. I've never been shut out of something I've wanted to watch, but I'm certainly open to anything that would be better than cricfree or stream2watch or whatever the favored site of the moment is. How's the resolution in general for stuff like this? Does it buffer at all, or much?

Not unlike any streaming service, it's hit and miss.

finally threw this on my android tablet, figured I'd give it a try before the weekend's ppv comes around. Fuckin A. THe main reason I tried it out was because I've been getting a lot of the "turn your adblocker off" lately with sites, and that's just not an option with those places. This appears to get rid of that issue entirely.

I totally haven't even scratched the surface with this thing, but I dig it. I dig the shit out of it.

I installed the TVMC version from tvaddons.org on my Mac.

Works great on this type of hardware. Android is a shitty operating system that usually runs on shitty hardware. I just ordered my 2nd android box with more memory and better CPU so hopefully this round is better.

Kodi itself is great as long as your internet connection is good you can OD on mainline high quality content ring into those veins...

UK Police Arrest Pirate Box Seller, Threaten to Suspend Domain

The UK's Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit is continuing its crackdown against sellers of piracy-enabled TV devices. Their latest target is a 38-year-old man who was arrested in London on suspicion of fraud and copyright related offenses. Police seized more than 500 alleged 'pirate' devices and are now threatening a domain suspension.

Last week officers from the UK’s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) arrested six individuals suspected of being involved in the supply of ‘pirate’ Internet-enabled set-top boxes.
Aimed at hampering the popularity of Android and similar devices used to access free movies, TV shows and live sports, the multi-location raids netted just 42 devices. Now it appears that the police have hit a relative jackpot.

PIPCU say that after executing two search warrants at a business premises and home address in East London, more than 500 Internet-enabled ‘pirate’ boxes have been seized. Police say they had been configured to illegally access subscription-only services.

Police have also confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old man who was detained on suspicion of making and/or supplying articles for use in fraud, conspiracy to defraud, and two further offenses under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act and Proceeds of Crime Act.

PIPCU say that its investigation began in February 2016 after a broadcaster complained that modified devices were being sold both on the Internet and from a shop in Walthamstow. Details coming out of PIPCU are scarce but it’s possible that the broadcaster in question was either Sky TV and/or the Premier League, whose content is widely offered for streaming via these kinds of units.

Police have not yet made public the name of the business that was raided in Walthamstow but TorrentFreak is aware that one of the most popular sellers of Kodi-enabled Android devices operates from a shop in that same area. That could be a coincidence of course but TF’s request for comment sent to that shop’s website remains unanswered.

While we wait for more information, PIPCU says it will be asking the vendor raided yesterday to remove all illegal set top boxes from online sale. Interestingly, however, if that doesn’t happen PIPCU says it will take further action that could have a crippling effect on the business.

“Officers at PIPCU will be ordering the vendor to take the appropriate action to remove any illegal set top boxes from online sales sites,” PIPCU says.
“If the items continue to be sold online, then action will be taken to suspend the site by working closely with Nominet, the UK’s central registry for all .uk domains. This remains protocol for any site in breach of the Copyright and Trademark Act.”

The recent action carried out by PIPCU against sellers of IPTV devices is not unexpected. While modified editions of the legal Kodi software have been used on desktop machines for many years, the advent of cheap Android-based equipment has brought the streaming of movies, TV shows, sports and other content into the living rooms of countless non-tech savvy individuals.

With software like Popcorn Time and Showbox also gaining in popularity due to their placement on these devices, plug-and-play piracy is now a reality and rightsholders everywhere are more than tired of it.

Finally got around to install the android version of Kodi 16.0 Jarvis.

    Pretty awesome so far.

Don't buy the Amazon fire TV sticks with Kodi that people are selling on Ebay.

    Just download direct from http://kodi.tv

You can watch YouTube videos about what add-ons to download and install.

I got some of the movie add-ons to work.

    123Movies
    Specto

These movie programs work really good.
Almost every movie you can think of is listed.

I'm trying to install Phoenix and UK Turk playlist for TV but for some reason I get installer errors.

I'm sure there are other Movie and TV programs that might be better.

What other programs for Kodi is everyone using for TV, Live TV and Movies?
