Adopted mine from the shelter. Lab/retriever mix. Very good dog. Not nearly as hyperactive as all other labs i've ever seen.

2 things that are kinda weird he doesn't like are car rides and water.
I would have preferred your route but my wife and kids did this, he is real fun but he eats everything including shoes, books, chair legs, and if he drinks a drop of water he has to pee. And requires frequent mental dingo patrole's.

I can't even stomach the fucking thought of having to put my girl down, guts me. Once these girls go I'll definitely get another couple of dogs after a year or so. I can't imagine life without these loyal creatures running around my home.
That was my plan but I was to shaken up by the situation and the vet didn't want me going in because I couldn't even handle being in the waiting room... My girlfriend at the time (who my dog was very attached to) went in with her... It still bothers me, 5 years later, that I wasn't able to keep my shit together to go in with her.
Peter, we took pepper to the vet & he gave her 2 injections. 1 to basically knock her out & the second to end it. It was without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to do but it had to be done. She was in a lot of pain & it would have been cruel to try to keep her going. We spent close to $2000 trying to save her before the vet told us it was no longer any use & nothing else could or should be done.

I cried like a baby in that room, just like anybody else, & said I would never get another just like Jasep. 2.5 years later my wife talked me into another dog & I'm glad she did. We got Comet as a puppy & she has turned out to be a great dog & couldn't imagine my life without her. I know I'll have to go through it all again but I've come to the conclusion that it's a small price to pay for the unconditional love a dog provides on a daily basis.

Jasep think about how much fun & companionship a nice dog would provide during a long day of storage locker buying & processing. I know it's hard to contemplate but I think it's time for you to at least consider it.

Yes, yes and yes. No matter how broken I was over losing Miki, I am so grateful my hubby made me get a puppy. It's time, Jasep. It will change your life. Of course no dog is going to be as close to you and as special as the one you lost. I get that... But the new puppy will steal your heart and be special and fantastic in his own way. And you won't regret it. Rescue a dog this week. Do it.

Not going to be rescuing a dog this week... If I ever get another dog (which I am not leaning towards) it will be for my daughter. I think there is something special about a child/dog relationship... at least to me there was. When my daughter is a little bit older I will give it serious consideration.. My thought on the whole thing is kind of weird... As a father I never, ever want to do anything to hurt my daughter. I know that getting her a dog is setting her up for probably one of the biggest hurts she will ever feel, so how can I do that? But on the other hand, I am also depriving her of something that was such a huge part of my childhood... It's really something interesting to think about.

I don't think it should even be a second thought, animals are terrific for kids. It seems your hurt over it is extreme, I grew up with dogs, loved them but I think most people don't take it quite as hard as you have when the animal dies. Perhaps it was because of the exceptionally long life your dog had? In any event I think the benefits for kids (and myself) far out weight the negative (it will die before you). How old is your daughter? If you don't want to share that info I totally understand.

I got Miki for my daughter, but she ended up being my dog. That is often the case.

Anyway, I hear what you're saying but death and loss are a part of life. If we avoid falling in love because we know eventually the outcome will be heart wrenching pain, then we never truly live.

I took my loss of Miki that hard, so I get where he's coming from. But at some point you have to heal... at least in part... and let yourself love again.

good call. Question for you Jasep, if you could go back in time would you prefer to never have had your husky for those 21 years and avoid the pain of losing him or are you happy he was part of your life.

One other point about dogs and kids, I think they teach kids a lot of great life lessons, especially starting at a young age. Compassion, a love of animals, responsiblity, the ability to handle loss etc. I'm sure you know all this, dogs are amazing for kids.

The dog & child should grow up together. If they are both young enough she can do anything to the dog & not ever get bitten.

    free dog.
when you get a dog from a rescue foundation thats what it's called, rescuing them. I think she refers to it that way because it's the standard lingo. Both my mutts are rescue dogs, $100 total for the two of them, best money I ever spent.

It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

With the exception of my basset, the best dogs that i've ever had were mutts and strays. It's almost like they are thankful for any bit of attention or affection that you show them because they know what could have happened to them.
