Is it possible Somerville will be the only "poker pro" signed by Stars this year? Somerville is prolly making more income from the entertainment and sponsorship end than poker.

More fresh money will join Stars cause of StickyRice types or Somerville than Dan Cates or Barry Greenstein.
    Boom.

    Wall Street Journal
"Amazon's Twitch Site Bets on Poker"

The credit Somerville with understanding the entertainment aspect and acknowledge nothing new ever happened with cable poker programming after invention of hole-card-cam.

PokerNews reprints all the salient points.

PokerStars didn't sign a poker pro as much as they signed a Twitch star.

It will be interesting to see if these former sponsored poker pro's will still continue to travel and enter poker tournaments or just retire completely.

Are they really willing to gamble with their own money?

They wont travel, most of them cant beat any games anymore

Over 20,100 people watching Jason Somerville twitch stream right now as he is deep in a $1k tournament on Pokerstars and he had about that on Sunday too so this Pokerstars signing is already paying dividends.

Usually when this happens it's because Twitch is featuring his stream on their front page. It wasn't unheard for Jason to draw those sort of numbers before the PokerStars deal.

Twitch seems to recognize potential in live poker streams and has a full-time employee dedicated to facilitating those partnerships. http://www.pokernews.com/news/2015/0...rnal-20802.htm

According to his LinkedIn, he's been the Poker Partnerships Lead at Twitch since November. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/scott-ball/3a/372/700

Step 1. Amazon's Twitch got into the poker business

Step 2. PokerStars got into the Twitch business via Jason Somerville

Somehow I think the distinction is important. PokerStars didn't sign Somerville as much as they got into Twitch

If Somerville wasn't doing Twitch we would be posting in the Global Warming thread

Makes sense, several other Stars pros started streaming regularly this year.
