fascinating under the radar trade that happened there with the Tigers and Jays swapping 23-yr olds, Gose for Travis. On paper it seems like the Jays got a steal here. Travis went to college, so he still hasn't played in MLB yet, but is tearing up the minors so far. Gose has been traded 3 times now so far, and kinda appears to be an all around poor mans Billy Hamilton, which is bad being that Hamilton can barely hit at all, Gose really cant. Perhaps the tigers see something in him they can tweak (ala JD Martinez) and fix him up, otherwise I would think they could have gotten more in return for that Travis kid.

Wonder what kind of insurance policy they got. What if he has a career-ending injury 2 years in?

Keep in mind that Stanton already has had a few injury issues in his young career.

This is typical online BS. Nothing that happens on the field will change your minds.
Say that in a sports Bar, and see if that flies.

You have to give druff a break, he had no reason to watch the playoffs after 20 million dollar kid ruined yet another postseason for dodger fans.

    Just as likely??????
if it was 1920 you'd be saying the same thing about Babe Ruth.

If you go by reg season stats, (and don't have an eye for the game) he is not worth big bucks.

    Typical Giants fan arrogance above.

There are simply not enough postseason games to justify the claim that someone is a postseason monster, unless they've had a long career doing it to where the number of postseason games really add up.

Otherwise it's very possibly variance and you can't draw conclusions from it.

Truthfully, Kershaw's "choking" in the playoffs seems to be a Cardinals-only thing. He has always struggled against that team, for reasons unknown. Even with that, he went a really dominant 6 innings BOTH times in the NLDS, and then just collapsed in the 7th, the second time likely due to short rest.

But that's not even the topic here. The bottom line is that I'd be happy to have Sandoval on my team in the postseason, but not pay huge bucks for that privilege.

although not a FA. the marlins and giancarlo stanton are closing in on a 10+yr $325M contract.

how many years do you think it will take for them to regret this and have stanton gain 30 pounds and hit 20hr's while batting 240.

i say around 3 years. why not just give him an extra $100M for 4 years and call it a day

The problem with Panda is that in order for him to be worth the 20 mil he wants he has to go to a team who has a very high chance of going to the playoffs already. If Some shmuck team like the Phillies or someone with no shot pay him any money it;s going to be a shit contract. If he goes to a team where he's like to hit the post season it can be a decent deal for at least the beginning, regardless of price

He's been the most consistent pitcher over the last 2.5 seasons in the AL.

Scherzer rolled the dice not signing his extension last year because if he fell off or got hurt he takes the chance of losing value but even a decent year and he was going to get more money then what the Tigers offered him prior to 2014.

Not sure where he will land yet but and Boras will encourage Scherzer to be patient cause he's an aggressive snake agent who of course wants as big of cut as possible.

Watched Sandoval early this season, he was obv out of shape, fat, and looked off balance swinging the bat from left hand side. Have to wonder about his dedication to his team and since this was his contract year, his dedication to himself. Gotta believe he can't push himself away from the supper table soon enough. Looks like a guy that when he signs a big contract is going to hit .220 for a few years.

If he ever has an injury to his legs, feet or lower back, the extra weight is going to make it hard to come back from. I think he is a high risk to sign.

    Hanley Ramirez signs with Boston.

    5 yrs/$90 mill

Not really sure I get how this fits. 3rd base?

    Please skip Sandoval.

So you stopped watching when the post season started, too?
Only way possible you can think he isn't worth bank.

so once again, I'm outnumbered on PFA
and once again, the pros agree w/me.

So sick of internet opinions, now comes post after post saying Red Sox are stupid.
Even if they win the WS, even if he hits 300, even if he won the MVP,
not one PFA troll will come back and say they were wrong.

Not final, but looks like it is real close.

Hanley and Sandoval pretty much confirmed at this point to be on Boston. Hanley signed for $88m.

The Red Sox are going to experience the heartbreak of Ramirez's injuries and inconsistency. The Dodgers saw a great (but injured for half the time) Ramirez in 2013, and a mediocre one in 2012 & 2014. He was also terrible defensively in 2014, and mediocre defensively in 2013.

Dodgers are already in payroll trim mode, and this was one of their cuts -- one I actually agree with.

Sucks for my fantasy team, as I had Ramirez cheap, but it's an NL-only league, so I lose him.

Boston may also grab Cole Hamels, whom I also have cheap.

The newest Cuban sensation Yasmany Tomas (whom I have for $1) is deciding where to sign this year. It's looking like he will end up on the Padres, Giants, or Braves, which is again good for my fantasy team. I'd prefer he doesn't end up on the Giants, as a Dodgers fan.

Anyone who thinks the 2010-2014 Giants are great needs to take a step back and look at reality. This was an above-average-but-not-great team which got hot at the right time, 3 appearances in a row. They also have a very good manager. The fact that a very similar team finished under .500 in 2013, in between the championship years of 2012 and 2014, should tell you a lot. This team is better than a .500 club, but far inferior to what you would consider a dynasty team. This is unfortunately a flaw in the current MLB playoff system, which is making the regular season less and less relevant. You might recall me posting here in 2012 that I would't have felt good if the Dodgers made their last-minute playoff push for the wildcard (they narrowly missed it) and won the World Series that way. They didn't deserve a World Series in 2012, though I felt they did deserve one in 2013 and 2014, had they played well in the postseason (they didn't).

Giants fans will keep covering their ears and screaming "OMG 3 RINGS IN 5 YEARZ!!!!!!11", but the reality of the matter is that this team finished under .500 in 2013, and then limped into 88 wins in 2014, including an embarrassing sweep by the Padres near the end and three losing months in this "championship" season. Basically Madison Bumgarner and Pablo Sandoval carried the team to this year's title, but this shouldn't be considered an elite team by any means.

You have a firm grip on the fact that there are two seasons in most sports? Regular season & playoffs.

Building a tournament team during the season.... Playing winning tournament baseball in this instance.

Kershaw in 7th given his stats in playoffs after 6th. Spoke to bullpen & manager. This wasn't just some random stat. Batters now see him 3x.

Every inning, every at bat matters in playoffs. Matchups & your team depth matter. Something to build regular season. Dodgers, in this instance, never solved core issues. No trades or moves.

3 championships in 5 years is binkage?

I think they go to options after 6 years.

Red Sox in gamble mode. Sandoval's slugging and on base have gone down for 4 straight years. Hanley is pretty fragile and is probably going to learn a new position.
