As fucked up as it is, this girl should have taken the plea deal which would have had her pleading guilty to felony child abuse, but I don't think serving time. Now she is fucked. Obv she is in the right, but the law is the law and they aren't going to rewrite it to appease her situation, especially in FL. She will be convicted, most likely will serve time and will be labeled a sex offender the rest of her life.

I read some statements from the 14-year-old's parents that they asked the 18-year-old to stay away from their daughter.

If they really did this, and she still persisted with the sexual relationship, then she is more at fault here than I initially thought.

It's one thing to date someone a few years younger than you, who is technically underage by law.

It's another to give a big "fuck you" to the underage girl's parents if they object. That's just stupid and putting yourself at risk for exactly this.

This is happening not too far from where I am living atm. I having obv been in trouble in Florida, know all too well how serious the law in Florida is.

I truly hope for this girls sake, she has a really powerful firm defending her. Most lawyers down here are terrible, especially in this area. Not taking that plea-deal was a risky play. I agree with it obviously, but if she goes to trial and loses, it will ruin her life. The problem is going to be proving beyond a reasonable doubt, that what she did does not violate Florida law as it is written. Not in the court of public opinion. And technically she did. I know its ridiculous, as is such with some of Florida law, it can be ruthless.

She does not belong in prison, let alone to be listed as a sex offender for the rest of her life. She seems very bright and still very young. This is going to show the outlandish, strong-arm, of the Florida law to a lot of people who may not have previously known and/or cared about.

I wish her luck, she will need it. The States not going to drop this but, in offering a plea deal like that means, shes being treated on the low end of this spectrum, which is good. Although the damage is still done. Hopefully she can write a book or ink a major motion picture at some point to help this girl out after this mess is all said and done. Which could not be for 10 years or more, after serving time probation etc assuming she is convicted.


She doesn't deserve this to the extent she is being tried, at all. Kind of makes me mad actually. And locally having small talked with a few about it, I have not heard anyone yet here, say they actually agreed with the State on this. Granted it was only a few conversations, but the consensus seems to be, Florida is totally de-ranged on this one.

I saw an interview with them on CNN. They seemed sincere, almost apologetic in a way. I don't think they just waited till the day this girl turned 18 to call the cops. It was an ongoing situation.
