But isn't this sort of thing FBI/CIA territory rather than some of the most elite soldiers on the planet?
Unless maybe they're there due to a specific threat?

Are you trying to tell us that the most elite of our military elite units goes out on domestic duty with identifying patches on their persons? That the most classified of classified ops groups show their colors when on duty, or even off duty?

Plot thickens comment was an obvious throw away remark towards the recent pics getting posted ITT.
I'd say there is a solid chance that the bomber is on one or more of these pictures floating around the internet right now. So pretty standard that people gonna speculate on the pics.

Not sure what he meant by "people like that", but no, they don't send Navy Seals to do routine security work at large sporting events. I can only assume he meant people trained to a higher degree in this sort of thing than a regular officer. Even if they knew of a specific threat, it wouldn't have anything to do with Seals. I'm sure there are plenty of wasteful government agencies that would be called to deal with it.
