The sad thing is that Trump could have been a very popular President -- at least with those among the center and right -- if he just governed like he did the first term, with some other badly needed reforms added onto it.
The public is mostly behind him with the social reforms -- ending DEI, ending men in women's sports, stopping gender transitions of minors, forcing college campuses to treat anti-Semitism the same way they treat racism/homophobia, getting wokeness out of the military, etc.
The public was especially behind him regarding immigration reform -- something he did fairly well in his first term, and which Biden completely fucked up.
Most of this stuff is even appealing to older moderate liberals like Bill Maher.
The public is even willing to allow Trump some "creativity" with foreign policy, as he was effective with his moves the first time around, whereas Biden and Obama were a disaster, and even Bush made plenty of blunders.
Instead, Trump is doing too many bizarre and wacky things, the most major of which being the tariffs, which basically nobody likes. He got involved with that $TRUMP coin, which was a borderline scam in the first place, and now is doubling down on it rather than trying to make everyone forget about it.
The immigration policy suffers from a combination of haphazard execution and poor communication.
DOGE has been largely picking at small issues and not resulted in any meaningful savings for the federal government, which has a gigantic budget. It's also declared an unnecessary war on federal workers, while not really addressing the main issue -- getting rid of the bad ones, which is surprisingly difficult under the current structure.
Trump unnecessarily picked a fight with Canada, and likely caused the liberal to win their most recent election.
There really has been a lot of unnecessary fail and unforced errors.
Oh... and too many wackos and unqualified people have been appointed to cabinet and other important positions. Last time around, he appointed mostly qualified people, but felt frustrated when they repeatedly had conflicts with him. I don't blame him for wanting to appoint people friendly to him, but they also need to be intelligent, sane, rational, and qualified. Many of these appointees were bad picks.
That's not to say I think we'd be better off if Kamala won. That would've been its own disaster in a different way.
But the Trump 2nd term I hoped I'd see and the one were getting are two very different things. It's too bad, because he released a series of videos in 2024 stating what his plans were, and most of thme made a lot of sense. What we're seeing here is quite different than that.
Trump is lifting sanctions off Syria.
Why you may ask?
Because they told him they would build a Trump Tower in Syria

Well, when I said it is the tip of the iceberg, I wasn't just referring to Trump. Qatar will bribe anyone who is willing to take the bribe and give them whatever they are asking for for it, and that is a very long list. American universities alone are several billion in that we know about, which means there are probably billions we dont. Several Western nations, including Israel amazingly enough, have some version of a Qatargate scandal. And for every scandal there is probably 50 incidents that were never discovered or were covered up. And this isn't even getting into all the third world nations where accepting bribes for influence is just business as usual, and no media would even bother reporting it.
In the grand scheme a leader of a democratic nation with checks and balances (so there is only so much he can even promise in return) accepting a $400 million jet (of dubious utility) really is a nothing burger.
I realize that thinking this will all work out ok is optimistic; but what other choice is there than to hope things work out. I didn't vote for him either time, but enough American people did, so he is the President, whether I like it or not.
Also, at some point Qatar has to realize if they take things too far wrt Israel it could backfire real bad. Qatar is a real small country, where half the people and much of the wealth are in one city. If they feel it necessary or even as a matter of principle, Israel could make Qatar go completely bye bye.
Now I dont think we are anywhere close to there now, but it seems like Qatar's goal is to get as close to this point as they can.
For the first point, popularity being in the low 30s suggests otherwise, or charitiably the things you agree with are not enough to outweigh the fuck ups.
As you've also pointed out, he can somewhat improve his legacy either by under promising, over delivering and notchanging plans every few days.
He either needs to pick things up for the rest of presidency, or resign when things are better AND leave Vance holding the bag when it turns to custard.
He can still weasel somewhat of a win with "Things were better under Trump".

Truly nuts. Country ran by Al Qaeda/Isis. How dumb are Trump’s Christian rubes? Syria is literally killing off the few remaining Christians left and these incredibly dumb people are all excited on Twitter because Trump got a parade. Well of course. He is their dream. A guy who can simply be bought off and has zero understanding of the region.

The libs are pissed, the market is up, Trump is doing his job.
Yea, it’s that simple.
Dick Head wrong again. His unabashed hatred of success continues.
In a readout of the pivotal Wednesday meeting for Syria, Trump encouraged al-Sharaa to sign onto the Abraham Accords with Israel, tell all foreign terrorists to leave Syria, deport "Palestinian terrorists," help the U.S. prevent the resurgence of ISIS and assume charge of ISIS detention centers in northeast Syria.
its wild because from the right angle its almost as if hes decided to tear the machine down and rebuild it without the rot, which lets be honest is an interesting/noble cause. and his decision to place soulless grifting morons at all levels could be less about sycophants and narcissism than him simply wanting the least friction between the present and his goals.
where that falls apart tho is when he does things like let elon dictate policies, deal to himself from the bottom of the deck, and just generally obliterate functionality in essential government sectors. whatever elon was before he got addicted to ketamine and HGH, this version of him is an incompetent disaster. so its hard to give trump the benefit of the doubt ultimately.
and the thing is, the people hes making an enemy of, they are people who hire for positions that are decidedly middle class or better. you think a manager at AWS is going to hire someone with TDS memes on their facebook profile? yeah not so much. and all those dudes who are locked out of six figure salary tech roles are going to be punching in at 8am for their shifts at the fucking iphone factory if they are lucky.
so hoo nelly trump better stick the landing hard in the next 3 years because theres no one to carry his torch and pendulum is probably going to swing the other way pretty fuckin hard.

inspired to check on Curtis Yarvin and see what grade he’s giving Trump to date for following his plan.
It’s like he had a crystal ball
FDR served a 3rd term so ….
Iran is ready to sign a nuclear deal in exchange for having sanctions lifted, apparently.

I cannot wait for the first Republican politician, seeking top office, to speak against the current administration. Speaking out now, apparently, is too risky. Speaking out come election time is far too late.

And you said Trump was interesting and noble. Where is tgull to welcome you to MAGA?
Trump is doing is a great job. He's trying to solve every problem we have. He's trying to bring peace and prosperity everywhere. I think he picked a fight with the entire world just to let everyone know what's up for the next 4 years.
China, the EU, Canada, Mexico, Columbia and Harvard University got exactly what they deserved.

Don't give up now, Sonatine. You people are supposed to be welcoming of diversity of thought. I'm not saying I like the free plane or the way these trade issues were handled or the unsettled war with the Russians. I do like the idea of peace with the Syrians and Iranians though and I like it that he's trying to solve the Russian issue. We'll know when the mid-terms come whether or not he was ultimately a success or failure. Until then I give him the benefit of the doubt.
Nothing he ever does would be enough for the crazies on here. No clue why you treat them with respect. The left is human garbage worried about their own self interest in having a country where the lazy are rewarded and success is punished.
Fuck fat ass Tine sitting on it daily collecting from the taxpayers to survive. Without Druff providing this forum he would have no reason to live. No family, no real friends it’s a miserable life he leads.
For 25 years China ignored American requests to open up their markets to our products. China shined us on. And shined us on. And shined us on. We ran huge trade deficits. Then Trump bitch slaps them with high tariffs. The chinks talked tough but by six weeks they crumbled. No more barriers to american products and the tariffs are back to where they were. He used tariffs to beat those bastards into submission. And it worked.
PS Boz, sorry for the red rep. I must have hit the wrong button.
