by and large, the reason health insurers deny so many claims is bc it is very cost effective for them to do so. by and large claims against them for doing so is limited by a federal law (ERISA) which curtails your ability to recover anything, much less put the screws to an insurer to deter such future conduct.
conversely, state systems govern auto insurers denying coverage for claims and liability on claims. in many states lawyers can work a claim in such a manner as to have a bad faith claim against the insurer which they rightfully fear. as a result, they are much more careful about denying auto claims and coverage for them.
