Yeah this is a bizarre trade.
I can tell you from watching Vargas for a few years that he just doesn't seem to be on the trajectory of a successful MLB player.
He has an OPS of .658 and despite crushing the minors, he's just one of those guys who can't seem to get his skills to translate over to the big leagues.
Edman has been solid in his career and is only 29. He hasn't played in 2024 due to a broken wrist and sprained ankle. Whether any of that affects his hitting or speed remains to be seen. But he's low risk, as he's not making a ton of money, and the Dodgers didn't give up a lot for him.
Erick Fedde was lousy until this year. Somehow he's been quite good with the White Sox, but is it going to last? His 4.92/1.433 numbers make me think no.
