CIA Director Petraeus Resigns, Cites Extramarital Affair

Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has resigned, citing "extremely poor judgment" for having an extramarital affair, NBC News reported.

"Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position," Petraeus said in his resignation letter. "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours."

"This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation," Petraeus said in the letter.

Mike Morrell, the deputy CIA director and a long time CIA officer, will likely be offered the job as acting director, multiple sources told NBC News.

I wonder if a news organization found out and asked him to comment and he knew his goose was cooked? Or someone in the Agency or elsewhere in the government found out and forced him out?

How does someone with an obvious lack of even basic common sense rise to such astounding heights of authority? This is the guy we trusted with our National Secrets? National Security? The guy can't even keep his dick in his pants. WTF did he think was gonna happen? If Russia, China, or North Korea want our national secrets, they don't have to use their military. They can just send over a pair of tits who will fuck anything with a dick. Why are seemingly 95% of US politicians so weak when it comes to pussy? The guy absolutely threw away his entire career. For what? She can't possibly suck cock good enough to have made it worth it.

    Never understood this, either.

I don't understand how these super-high-profile guys think they are going to cheat and get away with it.

Ben Shapiro has an interesting article on Big Peace.

Just two days after President Obama’s re-election, General David Petraeus, the CIA Director, has resigned from the administration over an extramarital affair. Petraeus was slated to testify before Congress next week on the murder of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, in Benghazi. ...

... This is only the latest in a string of groundshaking events demonstrating that the Obama administration hid information vital to the American people during the last days of the 2012 election cycle. The fact that the most respected soldier of his generation, Petraeus, would be leaving the administration during an Obama second term, had to be known by the White House prior to the election. And they said nothing in order to run out the clock.

The fact that Attorney General Eric Holder was considering stepping down from the administration had to be known by the White House prior to the election. Meanwhile, during the election cycle, the Obama administration claimed executive privilege in order to shield Holder from questions about Fast and Furious.

The fact that an American drone was fired upon in international airspace by Iranian airplanes was hidden from the American public for a week in order to prevent the American public from recognizing the failure of the Obama Iranian foreign policy.

The facts in Benghazi were lied about by virtually every member of the Obama administration for weeks upon weeks.

The fact that the administration had been slow-walking reams of vital regulation to beyond the election in order to avoid scaring off voters was hidden from the public.

Now that the Obama administration has succeeded in winning a second term, they are cleaning house. The two figures most linked to the disaster in Benghazi, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Petraeus, are gone. The figure most linked with Fast and Furious, Eric Holder, will be gone. The figure most linked to the administration’s economic failures, Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner, will be gone.

Only Obama remains. He ran out the clock on his scandals, and now throws anyone associated with them overboard.

The Petraeus resignation is only the most recent evidence that the Obama administration will lie to the American people to achieve its ends. But with all of his experts gone, Obama’s cabinet will now be staffed by the political C team in a time of crisis, both domestically and internationally.

They will go to the end of the earth to protect the savior won't they! Media, staff members, heads of the CIA.....

I would put money on Patraeus getting a subpeona to testify if he "resists" or tries to make up some bullshit excuse. But again, purely coincidence in the timing.

Seems like timing had way more to do with the election being over than anything else

I think that's what he meant. I'm sure the timing is about not doing harm in the waning days of the election. That said, I don't think his indiscretion would have done much harm politically. The guy was the original Republican White Night simply held over by Obama for the CIA. IIRC, he passed approval in the Senate unanimously, so there is no one that would made very many points off a guy elevated to Surge Savior by the right and approved unanimously by the Senate. Dude was loved on both aisles, he just fucked up.

The FBI picked up on this and confronted him about it. This was obv a matter of national security. They wanted to nip it in the bud before someone else picked up on it and tried to blackmail him. He was left with literally no other choice except to resign.

How exactly does his resignation prevent him from appearing before Congress?

Of course Congress has subpoena power so your point is well taken.

Petraeus' fuck up is just another scandal in a growing list of Obama administration scandals that seemed to have been purposely kept off the radar screen until after the election.

I'm willing to wait and see.

How does a drone being fired on close to or in Iran's airspace mean a failure of the Obama Iranian foreign policy? The only reason it came out at all was that CNN reported it. So it wasn't hidden for a week.

Another bunch of crap. Almost every administration has major changes in the second administration. They even talked about this on Fox. Also considering the rough ride of the 1st four years it should not surprise anyone that people would want to leave. There probably isn't much glory to grab while working your as off in the next 4 years.

It was also known that Clinton, Holder, and Geithner were considering leaving before the election so Shapiro is lying out his ass or is too uniformed to be writing blogs.

"The Obama people are very stable, which means that they're also very tired. They've been there now for four years. You would expect the inner Cabinet to go — State, Treasury, Defense and Justice," said Stephen Hess, senior fellow emeritus at the Brookings Institution, who served in the Eisenhower and Nixon administrations.

Already, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner have said they don't plan to stay on for a second term."

What exactly does Petraeus fucking some broad besides his wife have to do with Obama? Is Obama supposed to check in on the director of the CIA every night to make sure he isn't cheating on his wife? Why would it matter if this was after the election? Was anybody going to change their vote from Obama to Romney because the CIA Director was fucking around on his wife had it been released before the election? Please just STFU. Just because someone fucks up while Obama is president, that doesn't make it Obama's fault. Obama is the POTUS. Not the fucking babysitter of all government employees.

"Within a week after the 2004 United States Presidential Election, several members of President George W. Bush's cabinet announced their resignation in what major media outlets and Bush himself called the White House shakeup.[1] Several top advisers were also involved, although they are not technically cabinet members."

Attorney General John Ashcroft and Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans were the first to announce their resignations on November 9, 2004. A week later, on November 14, several more announced their plans to resign: Secretary of State Colin Powell, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman, Education Secretary Rod Paige, and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. Tom Ridge announced his plans to resign as the first Secretary of Homeland Security on November 30.

In December, two more followed. Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson announced his resignation on December 3. On December 8, after a period of some speculation that Treasury Secretary John W. Snow would resign his post, the White House stated that Snow had been asked to stay on as Secretary through Bush's second term. On that same day, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi announced his resignation."

WHY weren't these resignations announced before the election? It has been 8 years -- why isn't Ben Shapiro getting us answers?
