But I never wanted to be there in the first place, so it’s best to get out. All these conflicts, you’re either in or out and we are never in. Without being fully in, in their part of the world, they are going to keep throwing bodies longer than we ever are. We act like Iraq and Afghanistan were some serious American conflict. Only to the pocketbook.

We lost like 8k lives in 20 years. Thats less than a week in this conflict. Given the age of the average soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that they largely come from lower socio economic backgrounds, it was safer to be at war in the Middle East than in some American metropolitan area. Way more kids with missing limbs, but actual deaths, we have cities that pile up bodies at a higher rate over 20 years. I’m more impressed at some black kid who managed to stay alive in Chicago than some Iraq vet if he wasn’t there in the first six months. After that it was more safe than being at home.

But we don’t have the stomach for it. Haven’t for 50 years. And in this case with nuclear weapons, doesn’t make sense as a cornered Putin is unpredictable if you get physically involved. They get a million of their kids killed and remain popular. Can’t really stop a bully if you aren’t willing to get your hands dirty and we are so far from having that type of resolve. And it would be dumb anyway. Some people have the misfortune of being born in the wrong place. If you’re Ukraine or Taiwan, it’s when, not if.


What is a win? Putin is 72. Disregarding rumors of his imminent demise, we are going to see regime change anyway within a decade there. If we get something better or worse remains to be seen. I get that vibe all the time with him. It’s like Elon feels you almost need to be around a whole lot and joined at the hip with Trump or it’s out of sight out of mind.
