This thread is pretty genius since I only hijack threads on accident, it's not done maliciously on my end at all. I need to talk, to vent, to be heard and to see how others respond (so I can tell if I am close to reality or not)

I have very real mental illness, it's probably BPD (I have semi-known this for years, but never really been able to face it) and on top of that, depression ADHD and substance abuse issues. The substance abuse part I am in the clear on, so far so good, and I am in no danger of relapsing. The bad is that I seem to lose touch with reality every couple days, like clockwork, and I am praying a doctor can help out who specializes in such things.

I have NO idea what to do, save push forward with the navy, and all the while the effect of having my only mother doing this to me has been pretty crushing and fucking me up mentally and emotionally.

I am not on drugs, nowhere near it.

yes, I am now homeless (spent the night outside last night, killed two black widows, and I FROZE my ass off BADLY. it's not fun at all) and yes my psychotic mother is, for now, getting her way, and i am full of so much anger right now that I really truly hope i do not snap, I am praying I don't.

I have asked for help and gotten almost none, just "go look for work" yeah thanks, been trying, have an interview with coca cola monday, don't even have a way to get to work.

now a friend is taking me to valley med to be committed and evaluated as I have become suicidal.

just chatted with my buddy for 20 min who just finished basic to go in as a NUKE (Nuclear Engineer) and he got a 12k bonus, he said the bonus is way higher for Linguistics and wishes me luck from So Carolina.

The most recent person I know who joined the Army as a linguist (35W) is getting $39,000 bonus, plus $71,000 in college money.

Even 8 years ago, when I joined, the linguists were getting $20,000.

I know a lot of linguists in the Army, it is not unusual for a linguist in the Army to be promoted to Sergeant First Class (E-7) in 8 years.

Half of the time that you are in the military as a linguist, you are working together with all of the branches, so join the branch that suits YOUR needs best. You also want to look at promotion opportunities, which are usually best in the Army.

No matter which branch you choose, before you go to MEPS to sign the contract, have your recruiter put you in contact with an actual linguist, so you can get the real deal from someone who knows.

I am in like flynn so far as I know and all goes to plan I'll be up to meps soon and fingers crossed I get selected for IT over Linguistics (fat chance tho)

For Linguistics, if you become an interpreter/translator have fun with Green Tours. Odds are you'd be going off to 29 Palms or Pendelton to get a Globe and Anchor Tour.

I went in for Corpsman and said I wanted to be on the front lines with the Marines, this has not changed, but Linguistics seems fairly lucrative no?
IN terms of both short and long term financial solvency, what would you go with? Between IT Linguistics or Corpsman? You did say Corpsman, but my buddy just told me there isn't a bonus for it. Not sure if that means I woudln't get one going into combat (my preference) but all in all, walking away from IT seems very hard at teh same time.

Shit, flip a coin at this point- anything but where I am at now in life.

Turns out my great grandfather coming out of Russia was a Linguist, spoke 8 languages fluently and was held in very high regard in the military.

Easy work as a translator or computer tech or RN when i get out, so basically all three seem very lucrative

the corpsman gig gives me hands on real world experience that might also leave me fucked (moreso) mentally

the Linguist gig might be boring

the IT gig....sounds about awesome
