There's a good metric political parties should use to judge whether they're getting too extreme too fast.

Go watch your own party's primaries debates. Then ask yourself, "How many ideas discussed here would have been considered batshit crazy by the general public 10 years ago?"

If the honest answer is, "Most of them", then you've become too extreme, and it's time to rethink your messaging. Democrats really need to do this if they don't want a 1994-esque shellacking in the midterms.

Kinda unrelated, but something else to watch is how the public's attitude has shifted on gun control. Prior to 2020, there was an increasing acceptance of, "Guns aren't very useful to the average citizen, and some of them lead to an increasing number school shootings and spree killings". The public was more receptive toward gun control than I had seen in a very long time.

Then came 2020. Now the general belief is, "In the event of a riot, the cops will be told to stand down, and you're on your own." This blows away the long-pushed Democratic narrative that you can simply count on the police in the case that you need protection from criminals. Gun and ammo sales hit record levels in 2020 (to the point where there's a huge shortage now), and it wasn't just the gun nuts stocking up.

In short, the NRA was a huge winner in 2020 -- and I'm not talking about the election. Gun rights aren't going anywhere for a long time now. And if the Dems foolishly try to pull a Beto O'Rourke and start looking to restrict them, that's going to lead to an even bigger 2022 beatdown.

As opposed to the Republican primary debates, which are batshit crazy right now. Most of them literally believe in the biblical creation story and none of them acknowledges climate change. Slightly more dangerous than chicks with dicks.

I don't think people realize how far gone Biden is. I saw him on a couple local interviews a couple weeks ago, he was literally stammering. This was where he likely had questions in advance and he could barely get through it. When he is on the debate stage for 90 minutes getting attacked by Trump and cannot hide behind 10 other candidates, he is going to crater. It really is Trump versus Kamala Harris or Susan Rice and that is how the race will be framed.

The economy is rapidly improving, Covid deaths are plummeting (they are) and come September people are going to have it with these shitbags chopping heads off of statues. For those that think Trump is done, he was 15 points down from Clinton right after the Access Hollywood tape. I know quite a bit of people that vote, I have not met one Biden supporter. Not one.
