Trump keeps telling people that there will be a vaccine by the end of the year. Trump really doesn't know shit, he just makes stuff up in his head and says it out loud to see if you are stupid enough that you believe it.
According to scientists and doctors who currently working on one is at least one to one and a half years at the earliest. The last major pandemic the Spanish Flu had no vaccine or drug that worked to help get rid of the virus. There may never be a vaccine for the coronavirus which has mutated into different strains over 30 times.

Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, said the department's forecasting models predict deaths from Covid-19 exceeding 100,000 by June 1.
He tweeted: “CDC tracks 12 different forecasting models of possible #COVID19 deaths in the US. As of May 11, all forecast an increase in deaths in the coming weeks and a cumulative total exceeding 100,000 by June 1.”
His tweet comes after researchers at the University of Washington revised the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation model on Tuesday — often cited by the White House — upward to 147,000 coronavirus deaths in the United States by August 4.
As of 5:40 p.m. ET on Friday, Johns Hopkins University counts 87,184 coronavirus deaths in the United States.

I hate this "Let's leave it up to the experts" nonsense, because these are only experts in infectious disease -- not economics or public policy.
It would be like asking bottomset which toilet he'd pick if he wanted one least likely to break down. He would probably tell you to get the best, most expensive toilet ever made, because he has no idea about your finances or what you can afford. He would just assume that everyone has $200k liquid and eats at Red Lobster like he does, so you might as well opt for the very best toilet.
So even though bottomset is PFA's resident toilet expert, you still wouldn't want to give him the choice to buy the best toilet for your home. You'd take his input, and then consider other factors, and decide what to buy yourself.
The SAFEST option, disease-wise, is to continue locking down until we see if a vaccine can successfully be developed in 2021. However, that's not the best option for the country. We can't just default to the safest option, for the same reason that we can't make all speed limits 20 mph. Safest doesn't always mean best.
I agree with everything you wrote, but I think opening now is like buying the cheapest toilet that breaks in a month and you end up needing to buy another one. You already blew some money and accomplished nothing but buying a month.
There’s a middle ground. It feels a month early.
The first week we legit get any real results and we are open for business when the numbers are still very high. That’s not buying a sensible toilet. That’s rushing and buying the cheapest.
I hope it’s a success story. I see the businesses taking this hyper serious.
Saw a patio bar yesterday jammed. Every server masked up, cleaning everything down with excellent care, and 100 people on the patio and no one wearing shit. You can’t eat and drink with a face mask.
And they were way too close. I’m sure the tables were spread appropriately to start, but that’s not how bars work. People start socializing, talking to table next to you, moving chairs. These businesses are dying. They aren’t going to lecture paying customers.
The people most willing to crowd a bar opening day are the people most likely to not be taking it seriously. Unfortunately it isn’t a virus confined to them. They’ll be standing next to my dad two days later at the gas station.
This whole thing feels like a doctor saying you need to lose 50lbs and you change your whole lifestyle. Takes awhile to start dropping, you finally drop six pounds and resume half your old habits.
Time will tell. We will know in probably six weeks whether we bought the right toilet or shit is running across our floor and we are back to square one.
I pray weather is as astounding factor. I think it helps no doubt. But I have a feeling this spring high of 65, low of 42 weather isn’t the type that helps.
part of the problem is that most americans are mentally/emotionally/financially incapable of doing whats needful here. and our government has totally failed us.
this is going to go one of three ways:
1 the virus collapses which is actually totally possible and a few models support
2 vaccine
3 we ping pong this virus back and forth and create more contagious / lethal versions of it and spread it around the world over and over again
lotta people suspect #1 is very live here because we may have greater immunity than we dared hope.
that said, between china getting ready to nuke us and the ecological holocaust thats going to go down when we 'open up' on a planetary scale, we may look back on this period with nostalgia.
