The lack of enthusiasm is real. I’d need to see him consistently five up in every necessary state to feel like it’s a coinflip. Seven up to feel confident.

I kept having this discussion with other Dems in the primary thread. I kept saying I can see an argument for Bernie or Bloomberg if the virus hits us hard, just not Joe. And here we are cutting checks to people and have an economic crisis.

Bernie lost his mojo. He had a much more significant movement in 2016. He was just up against a juggernaut in Hillary. He underperformed everywhere after SC. So he wasn’t the correct choice most likely, though he would sound pretty good in an environment where we are discussing UBI type payouts.

Bloomberg was the choice. Sitting here in an economic crisis, with worse ahead, a data driven business guy would be faring better.

The black vote. That decided our candidate. We better hope they show up like the ticket is Obama/Dave Chappelle. Biden always has zero enthusiasm. That matters a lot.

There is still six months of a bad economy ahead, who knows with this virus, and I still don’t feel like Joe is necessarily a sure thing, but considering Trump has handled things almost as badly as possible and said more idiotic things in three months than most street people say in 10 years, needing to run perfect in three states with zero enthusiasm is frightening. Also Trump has a huge money advantage. Plus Joe matches Trumps idiotic statements with his clearly aging and confused statements.

I’m a big advocate for keeping your brain constantly engaged as you age. Every time I’m at my dads at the right time I throw jeopardy on and challenge him. From what I’ve seen there is a lot to doing puzzles and just being in the game.

Bloomberg was still in the arena. Bernie was still in the arena. Needing to think every day keeps you sharp. Genetics is a factor, but not the only one. Joe struck me as having been on a permanent vacation since leaving office. I’m not sure he was doing a lot of thinking when even in office. He wasn’t super sharp at any point. Now, he’s in trouble. I almost look at Trumps favorability more than polls. He needs to be at that bottom, which so far appears around 41% come election time. People enthused to vote against him. Joe isn’t exciting anyone.

They vote out of self-interest like almost everyone else. Immediate self-interest.

Their problems are generational and long established. You can say at this point they’re problems of their own making if you want, but their societal problems exist whatever the cause. When nearly 70% of kids are born to unmarried mothers in that community, who the fuck are they going to vote for?

That’s an increasing problem in all society, but a bunch of white people walk around making 31k with three kids by two dads thinking they have more in common with Donald Trump than they do with black people.

Can't speak for BCR but I think what he meant is, after Mayor Pete and Bernie won the first few primary states, it went to SC and the Super Tuesday states where there was a much larger black population that broke heavily for Biden, which is why he ended up being the nominee. It gave him enough delegates and momentum.

I agree that I don't like seeing blacks lumped in as a monolithic group that will always vote one way, but the simple fact is that ever since Nixon's "southern strategy" the Republicans have decided that the way to lock up the south was to embed racial dog whistles into their rhetoric.

When Reagan announced his 1980 campaign he went to Philadelphia, MS where 3 (white) civil rights workers were brutally murdered in the 1960s, and he said "the south will rise again." Pretty obvious what that meant. With poppy Bush (who I thought was pretty good actually), the rhetoric not so much from him but his allies was all about "welfare queens." With W it was "reverse racism is now a bigger problem than racism, so we're going to refocus the justice department's civil rights division on that." With Trump, there are so many examples it's not necessary to count them, but he established his political bona fides by being the lead "birther." (Still waiting for his promised $5 million donation after Obama released his long form birth certificate, BTW.)

There are some tremendous hedging opportunities on PredictIt/other betting sites.

For instance:
Republicans to win N. Carolina -105
Dems to win General Election ~+110

Some scenarios that could occur:
*Dems win North Carolina, in which case they're guaranteed to win the general. You lose the NC bet and win the GE bet, and break even.

*Republicans win NC. In this case you're freerolling the general election. Republicans could win, in which case you'll break even. But plenty of scenarios where Rs win NC, but Ds win GE, in which case you scoop both bets.

There's almost no scenarios where Democrats win NC but lose the general, which is the only scenario where you get scooped. You're basically setting yourself up for a freeroll while accumulating very little downside.

You can do the same thing in FL, which is trading about the same price as NC, but I think Trump is more likely to win NC than FL.
