It's always possible for Congress to pass a bill at any time to authorize spending on whatever. But as it stands there is no money for the wall in FY 2018 which ends September 30. FY 2019 starts October 1. My crystal balls tell me there won't be any money for the wall in that budget either.

i'm having a hard time tracking down the source for this besides rush limbaugh, but he's saying that the senate put in a provision that they're not even doing a budget for 2019. thus zero hope for a wall since it's hard to imagine congress going even more republican in the meantime

He’s saying the prevailing narrative during the campaign was that the Democrats technological advantages seen during the previous election would carry the day and drive turnout. He’s saying now the election postmortem is revealing that his campaign did it cheaper and smarter than had been done before. It’s part brag, part don’t hate the player hate the game.

Yeah, most people who make under a certain threshold probably use more in services than they make. It is just how the system works. And obviously people on welfare are going to use A LOT more services than their income (which is zero). Poor working people are underpaid for their contribution to society, so most of them are probably taking more out of the system then they are making, but it isn't their fault. All the excess $$ from underpaying poor people goes to rich people, then the middle class disproportionately pays the tax burden as the rich have so many tax breaks. So the rich benefit all around.

As far as UBI, something that Jordan Peterson talks about which I don't think is appreciated, is that the way we are hard wired as human beings, most people who don't work aren't living very productive, fulfilling lives. He is concerned that giving most people UBI and telling them to stay at home is going to end up in a lot of dissatisfied, miserable people with substance abuse issues and no purpose in life; even if their basic needs are being met because of how our psychology works.

That being said, I don't really have a solution for this conundrum. With AI and robotics progressing the way it is there isn't going to be a need for a lot of the 6 billion people on this planet to work, so we have to find a way to deal with this but we also have to keep in consideration psychological health, and there is no indication that giving people UBI will lead to better mental health, and every indication of the opposite.

In theory we can say well people on UBI will be free to live their dreams. And sure, some people will get into art or hobbies or something, but a lot of people aren't wired like this, and they are going to be sitting on the coach all day getting high on opiates being miserable.
