I will say the whole notion of "white pride" is pretty silly. Of course no more silly than Black pride, or Latino pride, or womyn pride, but silly nonetheless.

People indigenously from Europe with low amounts of melanin in their skin (which is an environmental adaptation to living in areas with low levels of sunlight) and not much else in common have been not getting along and fighting each other for the last 40,000 years or so. Now in the last 200 years we are no longer isolated from other groups of people like we historically have, so we decided all of a sudden we are a "race" and should have "pride" in our non existent shared heritage. In the modern world today you could go down a list and name 30 countries that have worse human rights abuses than Israel. And none of us give a shit about any of them. Why is that? Why such a hard on for Israel? At least FPS has a stated reason, the Jews are an evil force that is secretly running the world that must be stopped at all costs (I am paraphrasing but I am sure you get the gist of it).

Most of the Jews in Israel are 2nd-4th generation refugees from Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Why in the world do we hold them to higher standards than we would anyone else in the history of the world.

Did we decide that 3rd generation descendants of Jewish refugees are the pinnacle of mankind and as such should be held to higher standards than any other group of humans that has ever lived? If that is your argument, than that is fine. But if you are trying to argue that Israel is doing anything especially heinous or unusual given their circumstances than you don't have a very good perspective of how the world and human societies operate, both historically and today.

The thing I often ponder is: was Balfour trying to do the right thing to a people that have been persecuted for centuries, or was he solely acting on British interests?

The British pretty much acted in their own *interests* (plural), and as per the example how they brutally worked to surpress the Indian independence movement, they aren't known for "trying to do the right thing" for others.

First, the British Zionist, both Jews and their Christian allies, weren't arguing that they could get *America* to join with the British in the war because American Jews did not yet have much political power there. Unlike in much of Europe by that time, Jews in American were heavily discriminated against in traditonal seats of power, both in and outside of the government. Instead, they advanced the notion that Britian advancing Zionism would dramatically increase support among *German* Jews for ending the war, and those Jews have a lot more political capital within the German political economy than American Jews in their country. Which later revelation contributed to the credibility of the anti-Semitic "stabbed in the back" narrative among Germans.



Second, as with fundamentalist Christians in current American politics, End Times-anticipating Christians among the British ruling class were very strong supporters of Zionism, including hosting Zionists to speak among their exclusive social circles in the decades leading up to war, being allies to Jewish Zionists within the British government regarding appointments to key positions dealing with Palestine, and being apponted to adminstrative positions in Palestine after the war. In fact, their lopsided support for Jewish Zionists in Palestine during that period helped foment such extremely bad reactions to Jewish Zionists their among the resident Arabs that Balfour himself later deemed that eponymous declaration a huge mistake.



Oh, and the British's record re not "doing a right thing" for others: A leading British diplomat of that era later publicly admitted in an open debate that the Arabs who supported Britian in fighting against the Ottomans but were betrayed by the British government, which back on its word to support the formation of a new Arab nation after the war in the area that now comprises Israel, Jordan and Syria because Britian wanted to help out France and Jewish Zionists, were guilty of "playing the game" poorly, and essentially deserving of getting tricked by the British. To which the more militant Zionists collectively responded...
