Finally got around to watching this.
2+ episodes in. Will get through the rest shortly.
So far, so good.
Some radio listeners insisted I watch this because of its 1980s theme, and then I heard it was also very well regarded, so I knew I had to see it.
Anyway, I finished it tonight. Was excellent. They also did the best job of any show/movie I've seen to re-create the look and feel of the 1980s.
The '80s imagery wasn't perfect (for example, Nancy wouldn't have looked out of place in a 2017 high school), but it was pretty close.
The eight hours (well, actually more like 7) flew by, and most of the characters were drawn up incredibly well. Props to them for not making Steve the stereotypical jerk boyfriend (and then replacing him with the sensitive Jonathan), but instead making him a flawed but overall likable character.
The suspense elements were written very well.
The child actors did a great job.
A few nitpicks:
It was never explained why the town seemingly didn't care about Barb's disappearance, especially on the heels of the disappearance (and then assumed murder) of Will. Two kids vanishing like that in a small town would be huge news, even in 1983.
The cinematography was a bit too dark for my taste. Perhaps it was intentional, but I found it actually difficult to watch the show and see what was going on unless I completely darkened the room.
The government agents were astounding incompetent in their pursuit of Eleven. Knowing she had psychokinetic powers, and could kill adversaries with her mind, why did they repeatedly attempt to surround her and grab her by force? Wouldn't a sneak attack with tranquilizers have been more appropriate?
The scene where Mike was pressured by the bullies to jump off a cliff to his obvious death was unrealistic. I get that they were threatening to cut his friend if he didn't, but I couldn't see any kid leaping off a cliff that height (even with water below) under such circumstances. This was just a plot device to show Eleven appearing and saving the day, but they could have caused Mike to go over the cliff in a more believable fashion (maybe falling off after being shoved by one of the bullies?)

It appears Season 2 will have a Ghostbusters theme to it. I don't know how I feel about that.

Season 2 released on Netflix tonight.
YESSSS. I hate that limitles and chomo's like him ruined things so my perfectly natural crush on Eleven is viewed as creepy. If it takes her more than half way through episode 1 for her to get her little ass on the screen I'mz gonna be pissssed!
Tine would be watching a show with little boys and girls..
A little well known "secret" is that in his community it's quite acceptable and then some..
I hope he is not taking them for pizza.
Literally me when Eleven hits the screen.

God I wish I could care more about Will Byers. I know I'm supposed to.
This show is so sad to me. Every scene with her or Mike is as emotional for me as what a normal person probably feels watching that Jim Valvano speech. (which I feel nothing watching). I have to pause and build up the courage to hit play again.

Shit, I thought this was dropping on Halloween.

Please tell me Season 3 will be 90 percent Eleven, Mike, and Kali. Too many characters in this right now for me. I fast-forwarded through every Will Byers scene. Obviously every single scene with Eleven is amazing.

Now we know why these kids see "monsters" from another dimension.
They are all on cocaine.
