My feeling is that many posters, probably the younger ones, are missing the pernicious effect that the multigenerational hiring of radicalized professors has had on higher education. This generation's low seniority instructor becomes the next generation's department head and/or school administrator. They hire similar radicals until they almost completely control curriculum and create their kind of campus intellectual climate that is generally intolerant to dissent.
So the markets have decided then. There's nothing to cry about it. If enough students cared about it, all those universities would cease to exist. Your public universities couldn't stay operational with current or historic levels of public funding. Right wing professors are not hired at public universities because the people doing the hiring are left wing themselves.
Public funding contributes a large portion of the tuition and other expenses at state universities. Students are not given any money to go to the university (or for expenses), unless they are on some form of financial aid, and usually those are just loans.

the reality is that certain professions are more likely to pull in people of a certain political ideology.
it shouldn't be surprising that people inspired to be educators are more likely to be liberal. same with journalism. you can complain that liberals are overrepresented in these areas but that's not likely to ever change and it's not because of some global conspiracy.
how many republican social workers do you think are out there?
on the flip side, i'm sure the majority of hedge fund managers, business owners, etc. are republicans.
