I am guessing the original protesters (Kaepernick, Reid, Bennett, etc.) are pissed off their protest has been co-opted by the entire "Unity" thing.

Right or wrong, at least their protest was for something. They were protesting what they perceive as injustice against blacks in America.

This whole unity theme is pretty empty and meaningless, which is the entire point. If your protest is for nothing then it shouldn't upset too many fans and there rest of the real protestors kinda get lost in the crowd.

I mean if you are a black football player trying to do a legitimate protest and Tom Brady, Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones are participating with you, that is a pretty big sign your protest has jumped the shark.

I think most moderate Democratic politicians don't really agree with how they have been cornered into this spot by their own constituents, and they are more pro-american than given credit for, but that is the danger of playing the identity politics game. I really don't see how they are going to dig themselves out of it anytime soon. I mean the current Republican regime is a disaster and if elections were tomorrow they would probably still win in a landslide. To rally support all Republicans have to do is start talking about identity politics and the BLM folks will do and say something horribly racist, divisive stuff that turns off most moderates and the democrats will be cornered into going along with it.
