ESPN also puts the Dodgers' chances at making the playoffs higher than SF, if you look at their standings today.
I just read Ethier was hurt, so w/Ellis yeah that hardly resembles the same team.
LA's bats are better for sure, and SF pitching probably is, but the difference between the bats is much bigger than the dif in pitching, so if you could get action today, I could see why LA would be favored.
I think that sweep was the trigger to get Hunter Pence.
Its like the Dodgers are flexing their bankroll, and the Giants are (or hopefully were) trying to figure out the least possible they can spend, and still win the division by 1 game.
