friends in st thomas v.i. say its absolutely fucking apocalyptic. they took down all the cell towers / internet in preparation. they feel there is a real chance they will be living in literal stone age conditions for weeks and it may be years before life returns to anything vaguely normal.

Wow. Just wow. I live on the Georgia coast and Hurricane Matthew skirted by us last October. It was a CAT 2 descending to a 1. The mess it left was difficult to describe. I honestly can't imagine what a direct hit from a CAT 4 or 5 would do. Those islands are already slow to do anything. This will be bad.

French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said the prefecture, police department, barracks -- some of the strongest buildings on the island of 75,000 people -- had been destroyed, boding ill for weaker structures on St. Martin.
"In terms of material damage, the four strongest buildings on the island of St. Martin have been destroyed, which means that the oldest buildings have undoubtedly been totally or partially destroyed," he told reporters.
The firehouse in St. Barts is under a meter of water and is out of service, according to an update posted to Twitter by the local government of the neighboring French territory, Guadeloupe.
"Firefighters have taken shelter in an upstairs room. A number of houses have suffered damage, roofs have been ripped out. Total loss of electricity," it said.
The mayor's office in St. Martin has been partially destroyed, the update from Guadeloupe said, and the mayor and 23 others took shelter in a concrete-walled room.
The island has been without electricity since 6 a.m. local time, it said. St. Martin and St. Barts are French overseas collectivities.
Virginia Barreras told CNN she was riding out the storm in a hotel in St. Martin.
"The palm trees are bent over and (I) can't see anything but white," she said early Wednesday, before Irma's core passed over the island. "The walls shake when the wind blows hard, and we can hear debris being thrown around."
Footage posted to YouTube by PTZtv.com from Maho Beach, St. Maarten, showed winds so powerful they reportedly took out the webcam filming the scene

Well I'll say this. If this was #Fakenews it worked like a charm. You guys should see the lines of people at Home Depot, grocery stores and gas stations. I'll give credit where credit is due... most people here in palm beach were all over this stating on Fri/Sat. Anxiety levels are definaltly up but it's being spread over a 8-9 day stretch. Mathew last year was more panic because it was 20/80 that it was going to hit (and what do you k ow it didn't).

This is purely hypothetical, but could a multi national group of individuals who have billions if not trillions in hidden assets actually come up with a technology to manipulate the weather and use it to black mail or hold ransom nation states???
Obviously you cant control nature, but you can definitely exacerbate the climate in order to create conditions that could result in catastrophe, kinda like purposely setting a blaze to a forrest, maybe there is a way to fuck with the atmosphere in any given area of the planet.
