Micky Craft who got hammered while sitting on 5m chips before proceeding to donk them all off, with his final 2m (50bb) going in with 72o after he raised UTG+1.
Well, he actually finished 3rd in the $3k LHE which Max Silver took down.
Surprised the shit outa me I tell ya.
So I also learned a lesson regarding the time and place to be a cheap Jew.
I learned that the Main Event is not such a time.
Here's what happened:
I get 4-night comps at the Rio for absolutely nothing. Like, I literally can call up any time and book a 4-night comp, and it will be no skin off my ass. This is true for all Caesars properties.
As much shit gets talked about the Rio, it's actually the best place to stay for the WSOP, and my extensive knowledge of the property allows me to either avoid major fail or get it fixed fairly quickly. So I get a much better, quieter, and hassle-free stay at the Rio than the typical WSOP player.
However, the 5th night becomes problematic. Basically, I need to CHECK OUT of the property completely for 2 days, and then can return for another 4-night comp if I want.
So what to do for those 2 days?
In some cases, I would get someone I trust (such as Brandon or another friend) to check me in for those 2 nights, and then we would pull some shenanigans to where we would be checking in/out of the same room, so basically no stuff would ever have to be moved, and the only hassle would be the friend having to show up once to check me in. (I would really appreciate this, btw, and never took these favors for granted.)
Sadly, this year, Brandon does not have the same status at Caesars properties, and the other people I know and trust either don't have the status or weren't going to be in Vegas.
I was able to get 2 nights at another property during the preliminary WSOP events, but not for these two nights during the Main.
I should have just whipped out the Jew wallet and paid for two nights at a property I knew and liked, and been done with it.
Instead I put out feelers to see if anyone else could help me. Traderusky (from radio) immediately texted me that, while he wasn't in Vegas, he could help me. He had a good enough relationship with the Golden Nugget downtown to where he could get me a comp 2 nights in MY name, without him even being there.
This sounded great, and I really appreciated it.
I showed up at the Nugget on Wednesday evening, and first was greeted with the problem that the card guaranteeing the reservation was traderusky's, and I didn't have it. I offered to put my card down instead, but that would have screwed up the comp (long story, not worth telling), so that wouldn't work. So there was a big hassle checking in, and even putting traderusky on the phone with the front desk didn't help. By this point, I felt both frustrated with the hassle AND very bad for traderusky, who was being put through even more trouble just for trying to do me a favor.
He finally worked it out with "VIP", and I was told to go down there. Except "VIP" was not at all easy to find, and I was dragging my luggage all over the place in the crowded Nugget trying to find it.
Finally I got to VIP, and I identified myself. The only guy working in there was outwardly polite, but seemed to have a quiet disdain for me, as he clearly didn't enjoy having to do whatever he had to do to make the exception for traderusky to make all this work. Given that I would be playing at 11am the next day, I knew I needed a quiet room for a good night of sleep. I would be staying up late doing radio, which was fine because I slept a long time that day and woke up at like 3:30pm, but the sleep I was going to get had to be restful and quiet. I asked for a room with no connecting door, as connecting door rooms can be loud in certain hotels.
I was informed, "There's only one room with no connecting door, and it's at the very end of the hallway."
I asked how long the walk was.
The guy paused for a second and softly replied, "Umm... it's, it's, it's a bit of a walk."
I decided to take it anyway. I then asked, "Wait, since it seems to be at the end of the hallway, will there be any issue with street noise?"
"Oh no, it should be fine", he replied. "You're not facing Fremont, so it should be pretty quiet."
Well, first off, it being a "bit of a walk" was the understatement of the fucking year. I had never walked so long within a hotel floor to get to my room. But okay, I knew that going in, and wasn't going to complain about it.
However, once radio was over, and I tried to sleep, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
LOUD traffic sounds over and over, and even worse, some weird bell tower which LOUDLY chimed every 30 minutes, including all night. So it would play its little tune at 3am, do three "bong" sounds, and then at 3:30, against with the song and one "bong" sound. Then at 4am, four "bong" sounds, etc etc etc. Plus, I heard SO many loud trucks, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, etc.
I woke up so many times, and wonder if that contributed to not seeing things as well on Day 3 of the Main as I had on Days 1-2. (I didn't feel tired while playing, though.)
Anyway, shortly before leaving for the Main, I called to verify that I had a second night. Nope! Turned out traderusky's host lied to him, and instead I was given the LOL "casino rate" for the second night of $79+tax+resort fee, which worked out to like $120, which was not at all a bargain for a shitty, noisy room downtown on a weeknight. I had no time to check out or refuse it, so I had to accept it. Traderusky, the prince that he is, offered to just pay it himself, but obviously I wasn't going to be an ingrate and take him up on it. I thanked him but said I would pay. It wasn't even his fault, and even if it was, I would never want to penalize someone for doing me a favor.
After busting the Main, I wanted just to relax in my room and have a good night of sleep. The traffic was even louder, and coupled with the bell tower, I woke up countless times and was still tired when 11am checkout time came around.
Finally, before leaving, I decided to look more closely as to where my room was located. It was located DIRECTLY ABOVE AN INTERSECTION, so that's why I was hearing so much traffic noise. Any time a loud vehicle had to stop for the light (such as a truck or a motorcycle), I would hear the noise of it accelerating. And the bell tower was located very close by, at a church across the street.
I was pissed. I told them I wanted no connecting door specifically because I wanted the room to be quiet, and the guy assigned me to a REALLY FAR room, with the understanding that it would at least be quiet. Not only was it one of the noisiest rooms on property, but it was the farthest walk, as well.
Upon checkout (I was out of the Main by this point, obv), I asked for the manager and complained. She instantly agreed that this room was "not in a good location if you wanted quiet" and that the guy in VIP "should have known he was giving you a noisy room". She first offered me $60 BACK, but I told her that this was essentially a "double mistake", causing me to have to walk a really long way AND having a terribly noisy room. She then agreed to refund that entire second night, so that was my only small victory of the trip.
I didn't feel guilty at all for getting that full refund, because the room was supposed to be comped in the first place, and they basically bait-and-switched me. Plus I really did have a very hard time sleeping. If they had simply leveled with me and said, "The only rooms left are going to be noisy", I would have said thanks but no thanks, and gone to a different hotel. By the time I noticed the noise after radio, it was too late to bother switching.
As a final "fuck you", I left my computer charger at the Nugget, which I only realized after leaving Vegas, so now I have to wait until Wednesday for it to be mailed to me, and basically have no computer until then.
Oh, and I also caught a cold at the Main, which showed up yesterday. Hopefully it will not be like the horrendous cold I had in April, which I also caught in Vegas, and ranked as the #3 worst cold I had in my life.

Wait, so you're having them mail you the charger and pay the expense for your mistake??? Also, you don't have a comp until they do this... why not just buy one for $15 and move on with your life? You know I like you a lot buddy and am always willing to defend you, but there is jewish and cheap and then their is JEWISH AND REALLY CHEAP.... come on man.

I knew I would get some criticism regarding the charger thing.
Trust me... when I discovered this on Saturday evening (somehow I didn't bother to look for the charger until I really needed it), my first inclination thought was to call the other one a loss, go down to Best Buy or some similar store, and buy a new one.
Unfortunately, the only compatible charges were ones I'd have to order by mail, would be shipped out on Monday, and would arrive -- you guessed it -- on Wednesday.
So I figured I might as well just have the Nugget ship that one to me, as it will also arrive Wednesday (or Tuesday if I get lucky).
I also did NOT ask or expect the Nugget to pay for the shipping. I paid their standard charge for sending it priority mail, which was $20. That was a reasonable price, and I just paid it, no further questions asked.
