Kars4Kids seems to be funneling donations to Orthodox Jews in New York

    Weird story.

No doubt you've seen or heard this annoying commercial:

Basically you donate your (relatively low value) old car to them, you get a tax writeoff, and they also give you a "vacation voucher" (lol).

There are many companies doing essentially the same thing.

Kars4Kids spent $17 million on these cheesy ads in 2015, which is not uncommon for large charities.

However, they are under fire in Minnesota (and previously settled in Pennsylvania) for "misleading" the public. Specifically, 90% of the money gets funneled into a sister company called Oorah, which operates Orthodox Jewish summer camps in New York.

The concern is that people donate their cars believing they are helping kids in need everywhere, rather than paying for kids in another state to attend a religious summer camp.

I agree with Minnesota. This has shady written all over it.

Lets take it a step further and just state plainly that for every dollar going to those camps, 10 go towards NYC real estate development.

Not every, but like most stereotypes the ones about Jews have much truth in them. I myself am Jewish, but as a policy I try to avoid doing any business with Israelis especially cause there is so much risk of shady stuff taking place.

One funny example, a few years ago we were renting an apartment from an Israeli group. After we moved out they sent us a bill for $10k worth of damages they supposedly had to repair. Our deposit was $6k, so they wanted to keep our deposit and have us send them more $$ on top. The bill included an inventory from a supposed handyman for repairs that had a PO box as an address and a phone number. I called the phone number, and some guy with a super thick Israeli accent answered, and then when I said who I was he hung up and turned off the phone. LOL.

Anyways, my wife was sort of friendly with the woman who had rented the apartment because she had come by a couple times to look at the place when we were still there and talked to her then. Anyways, after we got the $10k tab, we were suspicious, and my wife came over and asked to look at the place and of course NONE of the $10k worth of supposed repairs had been done. Everything was as we left it. The entire thing was a scam. The woman living there was actually pissed herself cause after she had verbally agreed to rent the place at a certain price and had gone into the office to sign the document, the Israelis jacked up the price, correctly assuming she would just suck it up and not want to start over from scratch.

Anyways, the lady let us come in and take pictures proving none of the repairs had been done and the group was running a scam. Long story short, I then threatened to sue them and they agreed to just pay me back the deposit and call the whole thing a wash. The fact they were willing to give me back the entire deposit so easy meant I probably could have gotten much more out of them, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to do so.

I was renting a loft space in Brooklyn some time back month to month in one building until the unit I applied for was available in another building; there was this 'big mix up' where when it was time to move in, the original unit wasnt available so they let me ride it out in the loft space until things were squared away. All of this of course was run by Hassids who worked out of a literal fortified ring-of-steel style bunker in Queens. Bullet proof glass on double security doors, prison bars on windows, and every employee brought their entire family into the office and left with them; kids, wives, everyone but the fucking pets.

Anyway the other unit never came on the market so after a few months I just terminated the lease with notice as one does and bailed.

Called up to inquire about my deposit and amazingly, they told me they were returning every cent of it, which was shocking, and that it would be 2-4 weeks before they could cut me a check, which was not so very shocking. But we had a good rapport and I didnt make a scene when the other unit didnt come through so I figure they just decided to treat me like a human.

Until my phone rang 30 minutes later, and the guy who basically bait/switched me told me that he was going to 'keep half my deposit because he went through the trouble of showing me the original unit and its only fair, right buddy?'

I saw the writing on the wall and just kinda went along with it because getting half my money is better than getting all of it, but I specifically avoided _any_ version of a response where I agreed, I think I played this whole 'wow yeah let me think about that one' angle hoping that somehow, this would all work out.

Two weeks went by, no check. I called up and asked and the woman said she was very sorry, and then she said she heard that the original broker had some weird request in to dock it for an amount and I explained to her what he wanted to do and I could just hear her thinking that she wasnt going to hell for this fucking thief cunt but because we both Know The War she also didnt commit in any direction.

Another two weeks, no check. Called up, said look, I really need this money, state law says it has to be sent today, because I was dead positive she just needed a good excuse to fuck that greasy agent out of his blood money.

And lo and behold, 3 days later I had a check for the full amount, she just wanted no part of his yiddish voodoo and decided to play it by the books.

I have never cashed anything so fast in my fucking life.
