I played a two man tournament this past weekend with my brother. This is the second year we have played in this together and I have played about four times total in this event. Last year we made championship flight but finished lower middle of the pack. There are some pretty good local players probably 5 guys that are scratch golfers and about 20 who are 5 or better. My brother is a 5 and I am a 0.5.

This tournament format was best ball on Saturday (each player completes hole and better score is used), and scramble on Sunday (both players hit tee shot, choose the best shot then both hit from there etc, until the hole is finished). The scramble is a much easier format for those that don't know.

Shotgun start on Saturday, we began on the 10th hole, a straight forward par 5..one of the easier holes on the course. We had received a couple inches of rain the night before so the course was wet but they wanted to play the ball down. I hadn't picked up a club in a month and it showed in the range.

Anyways, I hit the drive down the middle, maybe 290 yrds no roll. I have about 215 left to the hole so I hit my 3-iron. I hook it left of the green but it shouldn't be too bad...however I didn't see the ball bounce. Drive up to the ball...except there's no ball. After a few minutes nothing. No ball. I said fuck it and my brother made par anyways.

I bailed him out on the 11th hole with a par when he was making bogey or worse. Then my game completely went to shit. I couldn't do anything right except drink beer and smoke my cigars. After our first nine holes we were 1 over par as a team with 2 bogeys and 1 bird. I shot like 42.

We then parred 1 and bogeyed 2. Two fucking over par best ball after 11 holes on this easy course. The next hole is the easiest hole on the course if you can keep your ball out of the airport on the left side. There is literally no rough left of the fairway, just a fence and the fucking runway. My brother always hits first...snap hook down the runway. I laugh because there is about 100 yards right to bail out and the guy snipes it left. I hit a bomb down the right side, 5 iron on green and 2 putt for birdie.

For some reason my swing felt different. Usually during a round of golf I figure something out and that was it. Anyways, I birdied 2 more holes coming in and we ended up shooting 1 under par 71. I finished 2 under that nine for a 76 total.

We get to the course Sunday morning and see that we made the championship flight, although we were in second to last place. Low score was 66, with a couple 67's as well. The teams that shot those scores were legit scratch golfers so they weren't going to give much back in the scramble.

As we were sitting in the cart I told my brother we needed to shoot in the 50's to even think about winning. It was a joke because to shoot 13 under in a 2 man scramble is damn hard. This course is about 6500 yds. About 5 years ago this former mini tour player and a younger guy now on the mini tour shredded the course with a 57 scramble, and 63 best ball. It was retarded.

Anyways, our first hole is the runway hole. My brother hits it right this time. I hit it down the middle and long. Some would say that my game is made for scrambles because I hit the drives stupid long. I used to compete in the REMAX Long Drive that happens in Mesquite although I was never quite long enough to get there. I can still fly the ball about 300 at sea level. We hit our second shot on the green and two putt for birdie.

Next hole 225 yard par 3. Hardest hole on course. My brother hits it short of green. I snipe 3 iron left. We take his, I chip it 2 feet. Par

Bomb down the middle, my brother hits wedge to 6 feet. I make the putt. 2 under.

Par 5, dogleg left. Brother 3 wood, 5 iron on, two putt. 3 under.

Par 4, 360 up hill. Drive 300, brother wedge to 5 feet. 4 under.

Par 3, 220. Brother 3 hybrid, 40 feet. He cans it. 5 under

At this point we are 5 under through 6 and I'm starting to think we may have something going here. Usually we shoot about 5 under in this format. This year most teams shot higher than this..and a lot of good ones shot around 70.

Par 4. Driver 330. Brother wedges 15 feet. I chunk mine. Miss putt. 5 under.

10th hole:Par 5 I hit my drive down the runway. My brother hits left rough, about 10 feet from the airport (OB) Brother snaps his into hazard so I hit 7 iron lay up. We both hit wedge to about 8 feet. I make putt. 6 under.

Par 4. Brother hits drive behind tree, I hit mine into the airport. Second shot, he hits tree and ball bounces straight down. Now I'm starting to feel some pressure. I've got 127 on the sky caddie but I need to keep the ball below the branch my brother hit. Punch PW to back fringe about 25 ft. I make putt. 7 under.

    Par 4. Drive 320. I wedge to 6 feet. 8 under.

Par 3. Brother short of green. Me left. Take his ball. Best chip to 6 feet. I make. 8 under

Par 5. Drive 300. Brother 4 hybrid to 35 feet. I make. Eagle. 10 under.

Now I'm thinking what the fuck? We're 10 under thru 11 holes. The guys we are playing with are 8 under.

Par 4. Drive 320. Brother wedges to 8 feet. Both miss. 10 under.

Par 4. Drive 290. Brother wedges to 10 feet. Both miss. 10 under.

Par 4. This is the dreaded 17th hole. Blind tee shot over marsh with the hazard continuing past the fairway. It's about 360 but closer to 330 if you go towards the green. I tell my brother to hit his 3 hybrid to play it safe. Hits it perfectly....splash. Not enough club. Ooops...I'm drunk at this point. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous since we had a great round going here. I take out driver and hit a good one about 10 yards short. I chip up to 7 feet. Brother says he feeling it and wants to putt first (I usually go first on the greens). He cans it. 11 under.

Par 3. Both hit in right bunker, short sided pin. I blast out 6 feet. Make par. 11 under.

Two more holes. Guys we're playing with are now 10 under.

Par 4. Drive 360 (hit cart path) Brother hits flop shot 2 feet. I make. 12 under.

Last hole is dog leg right par 4. Tough hole and now its pouring out. Brother hits driver towards fairway bunker. Nobody see it. I hit bomb down left side. My brothers ball ends up in the palmetto tree, never came down. We have 124 into hole. Over the green is dead. My brother knows we are playing well but thinks we're about 10 under..I'm not telling him what we really are. I tell him stay short of the pin. Hits his wedge to 15 inches. I tell him on the green in pouring rain..go make that putt and we may win this thing. Taps in birdie.

13 under par 59. Guys we played with shot 61.

So we get to score board. Guys that shot 66, shot 65 for 131. Whooo hoooo, we shot 130. We win!!

We look to see what the guys that had 67 did. They ended with 61 for a 128.

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!

So we ended up in second place and were happy about it.

    Better luck next year.

    Impressive 2 man scramble.
You ever play an ironman tournament where you play 9 holes alternate shot, 9 holes of 2 man best ball & 9 holes of 2 man scramble all in 1 day? They are a blast.

I played a 2 man shootout a couple months ago.

    Saturday: 18 alternate shot
    18 scramble

    Sunday: 18 best ball

That tournament was brutal. We were the first ones done after the morning round (shotgun start) and by the afternoon round I was shot. My back went out trying to crush a drive early the second round and I was worthless. You're right though, they are a lot of fun and I will play again next year.

I'm playing in a tournament in a couple weeks where it is 6 scramble, 6 best ball, 6 alt shot. Not the same but will be fun nonetheless.

18 of each is too much golf especially since these formats are so slow to play. I'd be dead, most likely from alcohol poisoning, the first day for sure. The 6-6-6 format is decent but wouldn't really qualify as an ironman but would definitely be fun.

I live for the 2 mans. We'd probably get along quite well on the course. I usually stop at 6 beers though. I'll usually have 2 bloody's on the way to the course though. 2 cigars for the round and I'm good.

The 36 hole in one day was a Florida State Golf Association tournament. I was surprised to see everyone was drinking. I thought it would be a lot more serious. My kind of guys.

Played out at Wolf Creek today, which is in Mesquite. Cool little town. The course is absolutely amazing, and is also on Tiger Woods Golf, which actually helped cause one of the guys in my group played it on PS3 and remembered a lot of the caddy suggestions...lol. Shot an 84, was the lowest round in a group of 12 guys. Left a lot of strokes out there due to a few terrible 3 putts. Here are some pics...

Giant freight copter across the street from the club. These things were taking off and landing a lot of times during the round. Really cool...

Wow that looks fucking sick! Grats on the 84 having never played it definitely respectable, you said you left some putt strokes any reason?

The courses I've been playing lately are all over seeded on the greens, so they are really slow. They are so bad right now that when you come in with a high iron you actually see a splash of sand when the ball lands. It took me a while to adjust, I ended up leaving a lot of 15-20 footers 6 feet short, then missing by less than an inch. Really frustrating, especially when you are hitting the ball well and getting on in regulation. I should have had a 38 on the front easily, but ended with a 40.

Sounds like a golfers paradox, love the greens to be slow but sandy slow like you're saying would be a nightmare! Would rather play the fastest greens in my life over that I think

LOL, I didnt realize that this was a real actual course. I think they also have it on www.wgt.com. That website is about the best online golf game out there. I have killed a lot of time at work on that site. You can actually make real money too or win golf apparel, clubs, etc. We could set up a PFA country club through the site if enough people were interested.

Been in the market for a new hybrid 3 iron. I really like the Taylormade Burner, and was going to buy one, but then I tested out the Ping G15 and G20. To me they felt exactly the same, and I love how the face is set behind the shaft, which is something I really like about the Burner and the reason I wanted to switch from my Adams. The Ping is set up with a larger club face though, and is more like an iron as opposed to a fairway wood. I settled on the G15. If anyone is in the market for a nice 3 iron hybrid and doesn't want to spend much, I have a nice Adams Tight Lie for sale.

When you say overseeded do you mean punched and sanded? At the course I played most often they would punch(aerate) and sand the greens in late summer. The sand was significant and if I wasn't a member I'd be pissed if I wasn't forewarned of the conditions.

That being said the first course I ever played was sand greens where you dragged a mat between the hole and your ball before putting

I always get a discounted rate with casino employee card, but in the summer here the prices drop in a big way at most, if not all the courses within 100 miles of Vegas. Course you saw in the pics was $65 for me, and that's expensive compared to most. Usually I never pay more than $30 this time of year.

Vegas is correct - for Phoenix/Scottsdale as well. This time of year, if you can handle 110 degrees, you can golf on some of the finest courses around for dirt cheap. It's one of the reasons people move to Arizona to be honest.

I'm not going to lie, I usually don't hit up youtube for golf tips but this video is just god. I was having issues with my swing thoughts approaching the green and I stumbled upon this gem. It definitely sparked some interesting thoughts I never had on the course, just wondered what a few of you guys thought about it?

Well my golf is all but done for the year (unless Gamblebot wants to play a match). My handicap varied between +0.4 and 0.5, finishing at +0.2. I consider myself closer to a 2-4 though.

Highlights this year were the 13 under 59 my brother and I shot in a scramble and my final weekend shooting 71-71 with the last one bogey free. Was 8-12 feet all day and made one birdie.

The low point was fighting a massive snap hook most of the summer. Think I finally figured it out.

    Can't wait until next year.
