I haven't cared about baseball since 2011 but being from Chicago obv did this year. Go Cubs go. Living in Portland, going to Seattle for a couple of games was fun, too.

That being said, I don't remember being more stunned by managing decisions ever in my life:

    a) Pitching Chapman in game 6 into the 9th - admitting he fucked up but saying that he'll be fine.
    b) Yanking Hendricks so early.
    c) Yanking Lester when he did.
    d) Staying with Chapman in the 9th after he pitched and looked like absolute dog shit.

For d), I was resigned to losing at that point but someone please explain to me why Chapman stayed in the game. Any pitcher on their roster had to have been a better option in that spot, no?

Maddon would prefer losing with Chapman over someone off the bench. At least he could say we had our "best" guy out there. You see it happen all the time in baseball. Bruce Bochy of the Giants kept on bringing out Santiago Casilla to close out games even though the 40,000 fans in the stadium knew he was going to blow it. And he kept doing it over and over and over. Why? Because most managers are jackasses.

Maddon did not manage this series well at all. He was just lucky that the other manager was a bigger jackass.

    Agree about Chapman.

    Weird decision making.

Rain delay actually saved Cubs here.

First off congrats to the Cubs and their fans on their first title in 108 years. Thats a serious f'in drought.

But, LOL at the Cubs dynasty talk.

This Cubs run was not all that impressive. If the Mets pitching staff were healthy they would have swept the Cubs right out of the playoffs again. They beat a very weak Giants team, dodged a good Nationals team, beat a meh Dodgers team and a seriously depleted and overachieving Indian team. And they BARELY pulled it out.

The Cubs lineup is incredibly undisciplined at the plate and Maddon did everything he could to try and blow it.

If the Mets arms get healthy Cubs will not see the World Series next year.

Sorry but I just don't see any kind of dynasty here but you guys can dream.

If you have Illinois lineage and can't identify at least three out of these four players, then you shouldn't jump around in Cubs attire hugging strangers. That includes you Eddie Vedder and Hillary Clinton.

    1) Ernie Banks

    2) Billy Williams

    3) Ken Hubbs

    4) Andre Dawson

Dude, all I'm saying is that I don't think the Cubs are a dynasty in the making. I give them credit for taking advantage of a very easy playoff road and breaking the curse. I just see a very flawed team that got pretty fortunate in a lot of ways in the postseason. Beating the Giants Dodgers and Indians is not that impressive.

    Dynasty?

Maybe not necessarily because of the youth you see on the field. Though that's a good start. The consistency with offense was a nit to pick. I am reminded of the Red Sox youth last year. Largely, the same group that became the offensive juggernaut this year. Young kids who needed to learn and see big league pitching and strategy. Many of these kids were fast tracked and only 22 or 23.

Cubs offense might absolutely crush in years out.

No, more important than youth is the organization. Theo Epstein is god. HOF lock as executive. This years All Star game fielded 8-9 starters who were Epstein picks for Sawks or Cubs. The trades. Arrieta - write it off as luck but Epstein must be damn lucky cause he is always binking this stuff.

You gotta know that Theo ran screaming from the Red Sox owners. He had enough of the politics and marketing bullshit. That he married up with Ricketts proves that Cubs ownership "gets it" and is the best out there. Epstein would not have made the same mistake he witnessed in Boston (or Los Angeles).

“I’m usually not positive,” Epstein said. “I’m not the one we rely on for positivity. I felt good. I felt like we could win.”
Epstein does not blow smoke up Cubs fans ass. Watch his interviews with this thought. Such cynicism and negativity etc endears me to him.

This attitude is counter the Red Sox hype and marketing. Sunshine day. So much bullshit. Panda Sandoval sells plush merchandise. Disgusting. Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez signings. Gotta sell season tickets.

Red Sox and Dodger value engineering. We won't give Lester $70 million cause he is statistically on the back side. We will give $210 to Price. That's value. Dodgers exercise the same value retardation.

You want value or you want to win. If Lester never throws another pitch Theo won.

Sometimes you fuck value and compete balls out for the championship. This separates Epstein from the Dodgers, Sox and Tigers. Getting Chapman when value said you save for the future - going "balls out". Dodgers went fag mode during Kershaw Greinke years and continued hanging division flags in their stadium cause that's all they have. Druff was fully on board with the future. Keep waiting.

Cubs are likely to be a dynasty not because of what you see but because they have a repeatable organizational process and they have the money and support from ownership.

The Cubs story allows a prick like me something to love while showing me lots to hate in other teams. Thank you.

This space intentionally left blank for Druff baseball variance rambling

Let's reassert who is dominant & who is submissive.

Just scan the last 10 or 15 years of World Series participants as you contemplate dynasties and your 2017 futures bets.

I'll spare you. You will seem the same names popping up year to year. Royals, Giants, Sawks to name some recent.

    Variance lulz.

Expecting dynasties is a fool's dream. So many things can happen to tear a team apart.

I know Cub fans and baseball dorks alike think Theo walks on water right now but speculating on this being a dynasty is a joke. Especially considering they have an old pitching staff, no bullpen and beat very mediocre competition and won by the slimmest of margins.

You're mad at me for suggesting that you hedge your futures bet then you hedge it & still feel the need to call me names. I never said 1 bad thing about the cubs ever but...........

You must be the biggest pussy on the board.

I did a poor job of communicating, I guess.

The only two ideas I had were:
    First:
When you have it - you jam. Dodgers with the alleged "best pitcher in baseball" healthy and in his prime. Grienke having a career year and in fact better than Kershaw that year - if you can imagine. What foolishness to think you save you prospects and build. Those spots don't happen often.

You really don't know who will be hurt or who will regress in the future.

    Thus, Epstein and Chapman.

    Second:
Epstein isn't just "walking on water, right now". The guy's body of work and multiple rings. Turning around two cursed franchises. Lock up Cooperstown. No executive will do this ever again in any sport.

If pitching seems elderly I'll just await Epstein's next move. He is higher EV than anyone else. 114 wins isn't a small edge.

Cubs will be back. Lock it up

Prolly not me but a reading comprehension thing.
