I just gotta get this off my chest.
I have observed in other posts of mine what I perceive to be a dismissive tone from Druff when he picks up forum callers. Perhaps a sigh or a change in tone that is never confused with pleasure or anticipation. I get that Druff views the radio show and forum as two different and distinct entities. He has spoken of his disinterest in discussing forum threads on the show and why. Two different audiences in his opinion.
I cannot otherwise explain his reaction to callers. It may be borne of years of unpleasant experiences on other shows. Maybe it's just a habit now. A nervous defensive twitch.
Personally, I find the calls from forum members interesting. You read all their stuff but hearing them gives you another read too. Drexel's post about Mumbles makes me think of him as an example. The forum members invest some energy into the community that the passive radio show listeners do not. They deserve a respect that is earned.
Anyway, Tyde calls in. If your attention meter wasn't pegged far right then you're just listening to the show for advice on what to do with A8 suited in middle position or how to get a free buffet.
I am personally thanking my god that Drexel is there. He is excellent at free form unscripted conversation. Where will this lead, I wonder.
Tyde is in a mellow and reflective mood. When Tyde chooses to he can spin some HOF stories and anecdotes. He drops a few references to old school meet ups. Fuck, I think, we are in the zone. He's obviously fresh off a new adventure. This could be hours and hours of gold.
Was there an attempt to make this call brief? An attempt to keep that Chinese wall between forum and radio intact? There wasn't a lot of effort by the hosts to suss out the gold. I kinda felt even Drexel let me down but gave him a pass cause he wasn't on top of his game with his head-ache and all. Didn't feel up to herding Druff in the right direction.
Druff still hadn't covered Amanda Leatherman yet. There was important work yet to be done.
I swear there is a memoir in you kid. Someday, huh? The epigraphs at the beginning of each chapter alone would be pure gold.
Until that day, I look forward to more from you. Thanks.
I don't think I am out of line with my criticism and don't see this as a purely reflexive Druff troll post as sometimes occurs.
