The letters on the sign are alot crispier than the rest of the photo, denoting some photoshopping.

I think that's originally a picture of the Pacquiao contract when they signed it.

Anyway, Bovada opens Rousey as a -175 favorite for the rematch.

    JMM,

With your fight knowledge, I was interested to hear your take on this fight. I thought it was a masterpiece all around from Holm. I figured you were impressed with the punching speed and accuracy along with her footwork.

I havent seen a fight in a long time where it just seemed like 1 side was working their game plan to a perfection, while the other was completely lost and didnt adapt.

I was actually kind of surprised that so few people knew who Holm was. I guess because I'm a "boxing guy" but I just assumed people knew who Rousey was getting in there with.

I knew without a doubt that Holm would win the stand up portion of the fight, which is why I thought Rousey would try to immediately take her down. When she did attempt it, it mostly failed, and then Holm got right back up the one time she did go down (and even managed to slam Rousey once), so that impressed me.

Honestly, it looked to me like Rousey had never stood in front of a southpaw before in her life. She got peppered with left after left. The gap in footwork and placement was HUGE. That's why I think Rousey's only shot at winning the rematch is for Holm to make a mistake and give up a limb. Because you can't close that kind of gap in footspeed, movement, etc. in a few short months. It was beautiful. She was putting Rousey exactly where she wanted her. There wasn't shit Rousey could do about it. If she even thought about moving in, she'd eat another left, then Holm was gone again. It was really cool to watch.

And I don't know what it's called, but that front leg kick to the quad area? I don't know why more fighters don't use that. Seems almost like it'd work similar to a jab to keep a person at bay.

I agree with your assessment completely. I was waiting for Rousey to just say fuck it, I cant beat her at stand up, even though I want to show I can hang, and just go for legs and try to get her down or get a situation going where she could get a limb like her arm and get an arm bar worked.

In the rematch, she better go for that a lot. I know Holm has some good defense for this, but its Rouseys best option IMO.

the kick to the legs, according to Joe Rogan is called an Oblique Kick (never heard that phrase before, and I would think QUAD kick would make more sense actually).

I think by going to the knee cap area like that would be devastating. the person would not want to advance and be petrified of a leg kick, opening them up for a nice punch.

A lot of peeps who train combat sports seriously have said this verbatim.

That is the oblique kick (which Rogan calls it) or a "push kick"; it is a technique that targets the top of the knees to the thighs. Usually works best for fighters who have long legs and can establish distance (Jon Jones, who also trains with Jackson-Winklejohn, also uses this kick very well).

The only detractor from using the kick is that if you have someone with good dexterity and hands, they can get the timing down of your leg coming in, grab the sucker, and use it to shoot for takedowns. But that doesn't really work for Ronda because she doesn't wrestle/shoot due to having bad knees (Schaub mentioned this in his podcast this week and I am so pissed I didn't know this b/c I would of bet more on Holly if I did!).

Some fighters, like Rampage, think it should be illegal.

That makes a lot of sense. The kick is pretty well telegraphed, so if you time it right the takedown will almost certainly be there.

This move is also good to stop a belligerent drunk coming after you full force while keeping your distance as it might happen in several bar/nightclub situations.
