I wasn't saying Bubba Watson was only a scratch golfer, I was pointing out that he is very talented which allowed him to get very good without knowing much about the golf swing. If you're a scratch golfer you are better than me but my ball striking is at least on par with a scratch golfer, my short game is the struggle.
Most people slice because they roll the face open big time going back and never learn how to close it back before impact. They spray everything right to right, then start coming over the top, swinging left more and more to try and compensate for the slice spin. If you can teach them to get the face square to the path you'll knock that slice out quick. Once they're hitting it straight, if they have path issues you can address that next.
FTR, my brother is close to scratch and he doesn't know shit about swing mechanics either, he just knows his swing. He's a product of my father, who was also close to scratch and self taught. I imagine there are a lot of good golfers out there who are very similar to this.
I heard during yesterdays telecast that Fluff was a long time member at Congressional and played there all the time. Isn't Congressional an elite private club? I know Fluff makes some decent coin but any ideas what it would cost to be a member at a place like that?
I'm thinking 100K+ initiation with 12-15k a year in dues.
RBZ Driver, burner 2.0 3 hybrid, rbz rescue iron rbz irons, taylor made putter. Got that all for 742 bucks, the advantage of your cousin being a head pro
So I sign up for a USGA handicap because I want to play a few tournaments this year. I put in my 10 scores and received my first handicap a few days ago. It's a +0.4. I know I know, this is just Pooh being an arrogant prick as usual.
Not exactly. Frankly I'm embarrassed with that handicap. I had one damn score out of the ten that was out of whack. I shot a 3 under par 69 with a course rating of 74.7 138 slope. The rest of my scores were between one and about 8 over par. It was one of those rounds when everything was great and the score could have been better. six birdies, four on par 5's when I was putting for eagles on three of them. One double and one bogey. It was a casual round with the girlfriend while drinking a few beers.
The other nine rounds were all under tournament conditions. Part of me didn't want to put in the 69 but I needed a handicap and I did shoot the score.
That tells you how fucked up this handicap system is. I'm a legit 2-4 handicap at this time. I'm embarrassed to tell people I'm a +0.4.
The sad thing is I play so infrequently that the 69 will be there for probably 1.5 years.
Your handicap isn't what you usually shoot or your average score. It's a barometer of your potential as a golfer. By inputting only 10 scores your hanicap is based on your 3 best scores, one of them being outstanding so your handicap will reflect this potential.
This is another thing most golfers, even good ones, don't know.
