How long before you just subscribe to what you want to watch? When is a cable company gonna come along and change the game? And just let you view what you want/pay for? This will never happen. That's why I have a combination of illegally downloaded media, cable television, and youtube. For now

These magic boxes are the most unbelievable things. A PIA to set up if you do a clean install. You have to install Kodi then the TV addons which is kind of convoluted.

Once the "Config Wizard" from the TV Add-on content thieving community is installed, you get insta access to every single piece of content ever created.

The war on these devices is coming eventually -they will either target the tvaddons.ag folks or make streaming a crime to the end user, or something.

In about 20 seconds these devices will start streaming any content created in the past 10 years.

My buddy had this set up on his Fire TV and the interface looked pretty slick. I guess Amazon ditched the Kodi app over piracy concerns, but you can still side load it. He said there was no built in VPN and that he didn't use one which I thought was maybe a little sketchy.

After we left his house, we ran into some yahoos at the OC Fair (sick brag) that were selling pre-loaded Android boxes for 299.00!!! Not paying that obv, but curious if anyone has experience with this type of set up.
My friend just bought one last week!!

.. It's an amozon fire stick that he gets hbo, walking dead and all the bootleg new realeses movies. We saw the new Jurassic and terminated and road warrior.

Il be honest with you.. It's not my thing.. I prefer to occasionally go to the movies or redbox or fucken just rent it from vudu or something....

It has kodi and mobi and a few other sites as well as premium cable channels already logged in and ready to go.

A lot of the shit is unwatchable though and its a big mish mash..I find it frustrating..

It auto recognized the MKV and that the video was HSBS and has a whole menu for 3D, including watching in 2D.

Now I guess I need all of these fancy addons but I don't know shit about them, so everyone suggest addons.

Why is yours so much clearer and organized then my friends.

He has that amozon fire stick with a 50 inch 4k t.v. and Sony surround sound.

It's a nice set up but it sucks compared to yours

These boxes aren't really made for playing your own media, they are popular bc they are front ends to endless streaming content.

The Fusion Installer is what the community has built:
    http://www.tvaddons.ag/fusion-installer-kodi/

    Then the Config Wizard:
    http://www.tvaddons.ag/config-wizard-kodi/

There are also better ways to run a Kodi only box:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenELEC

The bottom line is, the steps to go from KODI to streaming orgasm makes 0 sense and is very convoluted, but once it's done, content O/D awaits.

The content providers have a real problem with these boxes. It does away with messy torrenting (although there are add-ons that do that too) and gives you a front end, universal, searchable interface to all the streaming sites which are front ends to the locker sites.

The providers of these boxes are scared to peddle them as straight up booster-boxes so they are all pretty generic. The mouses all suck (you need an air-mouse with a keyboard or a blue-tooth wireless keyboard), etc. But make no mistake these boxes intended market are for those looking to stream any and all content from the web.

It's nuts, and as they become more popular the war will intensify. This isn't cord-cutting, this is cord-nuking.

I ordered a box yesterday that I've been playing around with. The thing came preloaded with Kodi which was cool except that they had a bunch of crap that I didn't want or need. I installed the Amber skin which looks cleaner than the standard confluence skin. Deleted most of the crap.

Been playing around with the streaming add ons and so far Genesis seems to be pretty decent. Haven't tried to stream any content I own yet.

Having a few buffering issues over wifi which seems odd since my connection is testing at 25megs down and 9 up

Need a good remote. The one that came with the box sucks.

seems like everything that comes from fusions add on is pretty solid as far as on demand content goes. I have tried to use navi-x for live streams but it kind of sucks. what's a good live stream add-on?

Why pay extra and order a box with it preinstalled?

Just order a $39 firestick and load it on. I'm not all that computer literate and it only took like 10 minutes using the step by step guide posted above.

Some people want speed, storage and other connection options. I would build my own box if I was gonna go that route though.

If you aren't testing from the kodi box - Download the speedtest.net app onto the box to test - it's possible the box isn't getting the same speeds as your laptop or wherever you are testing. I had to do a firmware upgrade to fix wi-fi issues and buffering issues are gone. A direct connection is better, obi.

Search Amazon for "air mouse" - the one I have is made by matricom, has keyboard on it and works great. Others I know have the logitech one, which isn't an air mouse, but has a track pad.

I have no idea how to change skins but will try Amber since you rec'd it.

There are other apps, one is called "ShowBox"... has nothing to do with Kodi, it's an Android app that just delivers insta-streaming - haven't tried it too much but it appears ok.

These locker sites are a real bitch for the MPAA and whatever. Taking down Mega doesn't seem to have done anything. It's nuts all the content available on the internet.

I didn't pay extra, it came without my knowledge - it was 68 bucks delivered same day. It also included a pretty sweet screen saver that says GooBang Doo in the standard skin.

I wanted to have a box with a little more power than a Firestick plus I didn't get one on Prime day -I was also not about to pay full price a few days later. The idea was to customize the box from the ground up but alas now I have to do a remodel.

    Edit:
Speed test from the TR maintenance add on says my speed is running at 1/2 mbps lol

I'll connect to ethernet and see what happens but i was hoping to run this thing on wi-fi

I had the same problem - who makes your device? I did a firmware update (was a pia) but now I got 10+ and can stream everything.

These boxes out of the box aren't really ready for primetime. They sell them with horrible remotes, fucked up firmware, etc but once you get them set up it's game changing. You can cancel your cable, your netflix, whatever if that's your goal.

The war is coming on these boxes. I dk how but they are trying to figure out how to stop it for sure.

i have really grave concerns about what, if any, countermeasures they take to keep you from ending up on the receiving end of a DMCA suit.

No idea who makes this thing - it's marketed by a bunch of different companies but it is the MX III M82

    MXIII M82 Specifications

    Amlogic S802 Quad-Core Cortex-A9 2.0GHz CPU + ARM Mali-450MP Octa-Core GPU
    2GB DDR3 RAM + 8GB NAND flash ROM (max. support 32GB)
802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity with Android 4.4 OS
Supports 2K / 4K ultra HD video play back
Ships with a pre-installed version of XBMC
    Supports Miracast, DLNA and AirPlay
I hooked it up directly to my modem and streamed flawlessly, but I don't have an ethernet connection where I want to put the box. I had a range extender sitting around so I hooked it up and connected the box to it and it works great. I suspect the antenna in the box is the real problem. I'll check into updating the firmware too.
