Is there any evidence that Micon isnt still currently working with the same people at Seals?

They may have told a story just to get the heat off of them and make people think they are now out of it.

The reality is that there is lots of things to speculate about, but nothing proven yet.

He may be in Antigua to hide from his business partners and not the govt. Maybe both, who knows.
He's not exactly hiding or even pretending to hide. He's actually doing interviews and videos telling people where he is and what he's doing. That's pretty close to if not exactly the antithesis of hiding.

Good luck in Antigua. The trending stories on that page shouldn't give any cause for concern.

Best case scenario is that Antigua more or less has mercy on him and lets him stay in their shithole country for god knows how long. The problem is that if his new bitcoin poker site doesnt work out he is fucked. Only he knows what is on those computers that were seized, but even he seems to think he is going to be charged.

He can keep saying over and over to himself he has done nothing wrong, but he is using the same sort of warped thinking that the guys behind Silk Road and bitcoin exchanges used before they went to prison. I am not saying there is a moral equivalent between the businesses but these bitcoin guys seems to brainwash themselves into believing that laws dont apply simply because how one interacts with bitcoins is different than how one interacts with real currency. It is a very "cult like" mentality as you can give the person all the evidence to the contrary, pick apart their logic, but they still wont budge. His "math does not bow to guns" line just shows you he doesn't get it. It ISNT about the bitcoin itself. It is about the laws that were broken using the bitcoin as the means to purchase the goods and services. If we are to believe that Micon did nothing wrong, then the guy behind Silk Road should still be free.

100 % agree it is a total warped mentality, here is a quote from the article

He explained that the online gaming company uses Bitcoin, a digital currency, to conduct transactions and further argued that as far as he’s aware, his operation cannot be considered illegal because there are no laws, in the US or elsewhere, governing the use of this new electronic currency.

So does this mean I can just come up with my own crypto currency and set up gambling sites all over the USA and world and profit and it wont be illegal?

People who used bitcoins on silk road found out differently. Obviously I am not saying poker is the same as buying drugs but using this as a defense probably would not fly if he were to be charged.

Exactly my point. Based on this logic the founder of Silk Road should be a free man since all the transaction were done with Bitcoin. However, the government doesnt see it that way and that guy faces min of 30 years in prison.

So basically with this line of thinking, someone could rent out the MGM convention center and host the BSOP (Bitcoin Series of Poker) and have people buyin and cash out with Bitcoin and this would be legal?

Indeed very flawed rationalizing logic. The law may come after him for making these types of statements just to have a case showing on the books that bitcoins cannot be used as a form of circumvention. People trying to evade laws would be charged with the Micon swc bitcoin statute.

It seems even worse than that. He seems to think you can provide ANY goods and services (even if the goods and services are illegal) and as long as you use bitcoin as the "currency" for the transaction the goods or services be cant classified as illegal.

The stupidity in this thinking runs so deep it is honestly hard to believe.

The whole concept of Bitcoin not being valued is hilarious. The follow up question should always be "how do you get Bitcoin?" When the answer is you buy it with money, then obviously it's a valued currency
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Just because it's interesting: Canada actually did put down some laws regarding gambling of cryptocurrency. This caused the owner of just-dice to close down for some months, only to (as far as anyone can tell) legally come back up using a different one (CLAMS instead of Bitcoin) because there were no exchanges trading CLAMS for official currency. Not that that has anything to do with Micon or Seals, but I thought it was interesting that a vagueness in laws created wiggle room for them. It's pretty clear that the pachinco model doesn't fly in Nevada, but I've heard of bars in some states playing poker for a buy-in then awarding stuffed animals or some shit that they trade back for money.

It's silly to think bitcoin makes gambling fly in the states, some states have laws that outlaw any gambling with something of value, not just dollars. Maybe you can play poker for ham sandwiches in some states, but in others even play money is illegal if there is any value attached. Value being such a wide term that even a leaderboard of winners that provides personal bragging satisfaction could constitute "value." Most states also have laws against giving drugs to someone else, regardless of the number of ham sandwiches that are involved in the transaction.

Obviously none of this has fuck-all to do with this thread, it just made me get sad about the fact that we can't just play poker and be treated like reasonable, consenting, human beings in this country. The comparison, on a poker forum no less, to people that conspired to distribute drugs and have people murdered further depresses my hopes that some day we'll wake up to poker being treated like the game that it is.

except the silk road guy dealt in drugs and murder-for-hire which is quite illegal whether bitcoin was involved or not. Guy could have been giving his wares out for free and he'd still be going to jail, bitcoin or not.
