I can only imagine what they are going through right now. How many times you think they told her to drop this delusional lazy fuck? Probably every fucking day.

If I am Martha I go back to the US, with child, and tell Micon you can come back and see her whenever you want to grow the fuck up and act like an adult once in your life. No reason for her to be forced to live on a 3rd world island because her POS husband is a fugitive from justice.

I am being serious here, but I wonder if this is a form of the Stockholm Syndrome. How do you get a well paid lawyer to quit her career and move to Vegas and basically cut ties with reality? It is almost cultish in it's behavior. Her parents have to be freaking out right about now. They lose their daughter and now their grand daughter to third world country.

Micon is a sociopath to drag his family into this lifestyle. It's not like he moved to start a legitimate business in say London or Sydney. He is hiding out in a 3rd world country trying to launch a gambling website which launders currency. Yeah, that is not dangerous. To drag your family in that is downright sociopathic.

The scary thing is he thinks he is an entrepreneur. Um no. He is just another grifter who got caught trying to make a buck illegally. He might not like the law, but that does not give you the right to break it.

At this point, what's Micon's best play?

If I was him I'd probably return to the US in a week or so and move out of Nevada.

He would be extradited back to Nevada to face charges. That really is not the long term issue though. It's going to be the Feds, likely money laundering, violation of the UIGEA Act and income tax evasion. The UIGEA has broad bi-partisan support as it was passed by a Republican Congress and enforced vigorously by a liberal President.

Note that Bovada doesn't allow residents of Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, or Delaware to play on there.

Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware are obvious -- because they have licensed, legalized state-level online poker sites.

Maryland are New York are because the two DOJ offices actively busting online gambling operate from those states, and they use the fact that residents from those states play on the sites as a simple justification to get arrest/search warrants. So they are making it tougher for those DOJ offices to establish a case against them.

So as much as Bovada has been giving the finger to the US government during their 15 years in operation, they are also careful.

I have plenty of issues with Bovada lately, and only play there because they're the least of all the online evils, and I trust them marginally enough not to steal my money. However, despite Bovada's problems, they are absolute geniuses when it comes to both payment processing and avoiding smackdowns from the US government. They've existed for 15 years as a poker room, casino, and sportsbook (the latter of which really pisses of US authorities) and have avoided any kind of bust. They still pay you quickly and reliably when you win. You have to admire them for that.

My point here is that Bovada, for all their ability to avoid the US government shutting them down, are scared to operate in the states with legalized online poker. They don't want to step on toes or motivate certain law enforcement agencies to go after them.

Seals was different. They had the free, open, no restrictions business model. You could play from anywhere, you could make as many accounts as you wanted, and you didn't have to give them your name or e-mail. On the surface, that seems cool, but it invited trouble. This allowed Nevada residents to play there instead of the existing legalized poker sites, and Micon lived right there in Vegas. The NGC doesn't take kindly to that, and it was easy for them to go after Micon, living right in the state. Had Seals refused to offer games to people in Nevada, this bust may not have happened -- or at least the NGC wouldn't have been nearly as interested.

Bovada needs to take bitcoin. It's so simple. Someone has to teach em how to dance... bitcoin

Micon is facing a possible indictment in Nevada on state charges of illegal gaming but could also be charged in a federal indictment and face years in prison.

Micon should call Edward Snowden in Moscow, Russia and ask if he has a spare room.

If I were him on February 11th, I would probably stay, drop involvement with Seals or any other kind of bitcoin gambling, face the music, and argue in court that there aren't clear laws against poker for bitcoin. Maybe he'd get off, maybe he'd face some prison time, but it's possible they might settle for a fine, probation, and the promise not to ever run another gambling site. In any case, there was enough of a legal grey area to where he probably could have avoided major prison time.

Alternately, the plan to flee to Antigua and answer to charges remotely also isn't terrible, as you have more leverage and can agree to something reasonable without them being able to hold an immense and imminent prison sentence over your head. (The downside is that running always pisses them off, but it's still not the worst option, given he wasn't charged yet.)

However, as already pointed out, I don't think it's wise to restart Seals after everything that's happened. That move is assuring yourself that you'll never set foot on US soil (or other US-friendly countries) ever again, and that's a pretty big thing to give up when you're 36 years old with a young child. But that's the path he's apparently choosing. It's important to note that he hasn't quite chosen it yet, as Seals hasn't restarted. He can still reverse course and choose to scrap the restart plan, but I don't think he will.
