I imagine Cotto doesn't want any of this guy considering how much more money is to be made losing decisions to canelo or may weather an walking out if the ring under his own power.

Yeah, people talk so much shit about how there's no point in the fight happening now, but it's still easily the biggest thing in boxing, and one of the biggest in sports. Even people that don't watch much boxing would be buying this fight. It'll break all PPV records with ease.
Both fighters are past their best, but I think Pacquiao may have a better chance now, than he did then. Pac's still beating guys up pretty seriously, and Mayweather is getting hit a lot more than he used to. It's still really interesting.

“I want to get some movement here, with bringing Mayweather to the table so we can go out and get everything signed and get the networks together and get the thing finished,” Arum told Yahoo Sports.
Last Friday, Arum told the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other media outlets he was not at liberty to discuss the ongoing negotiations between the two camps. However, the chairman of Top Rank had a change of heart. He initially talked to examiner.com and told that outlet that Pacquiao was on board with the terms for the fight. Pacquiao, a congressman from the Philippines whose boxing record is 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts, is flying to the United States today and plans to meet with Arum.
“The point is that I don’t want what happened the other times to happen again,” Arum said. “I want this fight to actually happen. I want everybody to make a lot of money on the fight. I want the public to be satisfied. And I think it will be a terrific event. That’s what I want, and I’ve done everything in my power to make that happen.
“I think Manny has been very reasonable and demonstrated that he wants the fight to happen. Now, we’re waiting on Floyd. That’s not to say that Floyd has been obstinate, that Floyd won’t do it, but we’re waiting on him.”

It's funny, the two things that were holding the fight up, were the quickest things settled. They agreed on drug testing and purse split pretty quickly.

Sadly, Floyd-Manny is still extremely unlikely. It looks now like the most likely fight for Floyd next is a rematch with Cotto.
In much more important news, Al Haymon is making NBC the new Showtime and is in the early stages of creating his own UFC of boxing (the "PBC"). He wants to be like Dana White, and he might be able to pull it off. And we have to root for him to be successful, because it would be good for everyone but his competitors (and possibly the fighters, depending on how they're paid). UFC fighters are notoriously underpaid and they have no say in who they fight, so the best fights get made. When Robert Guerrero fights Keith Thurman on NBC on March 7 (awesome fight), he will reportedly be paid $2.5 million, which is 2-3 times what he would get paid if that fight was on HBO or Showtime, so Haymon, at least at the beginning, is apparently trying to do this while still paying his fighters very well. He's putting on another great fight (Garcia-Peterson) on NBC in April, and he supposedly has plans to eventually have similar shows on CBS and Spike. And he's doing it with time buys, where he just pays the networks for the time. He's apparently got lots of outside investors, but at this point all of this is clearly a money-losing proposition - it's all part of a much bigger, long-term, mysterious plan. Will be fascinating to see how it all plays out. Will also determine the future of the sport. Al Haymon is trying to become the most powerful man ever in boxing, and it seems like it could actually happen.
Disappointing that Garcia/Peterson is at a catchweight. Peterson loses to Matthysse, and potentially to Garcia, and will still be champ.
I must say I was impressed with Deontay Wilder last night fighting 8 more rounds then he ever had to in his career and not fading a ton until the last few which is no different then most heavyweights. He came in lean and fought a very disciplined fight while Stiverne was banking on Wilder making a mistake.
I think Stiverne thought Wilder would gas. I was starting to think he would, too. Stiverne did some good work to Wilder's body. Wilder had no idea how to protect his body. His hands constantly went up to protect his head, but he never tucked in to cover the body.
Wilder has come a looooooooooooooooooooong way from what he once was. His footwork is still pretty bad, but he answered a lot of questions people had about him, in this fight. He went all 12 pretty easily. He took several BIG shots from Stiverne. And he boxed going backwards. I mean boxed. Not just tried to land the right hand. He still gets wild at times when he's got his man hurt, but he did a good job of not punching himself out and leaving nothing for the later rounds.
Stiverne has got a fantastic chin on him.
I think Wilder beats Tyson Fury for sure. He's not ready for Klitschko.
