I have always simply moved over and let them pass, it's just so simple and mostly no hastle and often get a thank you wave. Slowing down and holding up the flow of traffic even and if you are going legal limit is a super duche move and are asking for a confrontation, usually see old grumps with nowhere to go doing this but I can totally see Thomas doing this lol such a ass move.
There are several lines of thinking behind it.

1. Tailgaiting is a douchier move in the first place, and not a behavior I'm going to reward.

2. It's practical and works. 90% of the time, they get the point and pass you. Which they should have just done in the first place.

3. Someone aggressively making demands of me? To break the law no less? lol fuck you, enjoy more inconvenience.

It's like a pragmatic method of dealing with children.
I don't tailgate slow cars.

I just pass them, whether legally or illegally (provided I can see what's coming on the other side).

I have to admit that it's tilting to follow a car going the speed limit on certain roads which are obviously built to accommodate faster traffic. Speed limits are often set for reasons other than safety.
