Yeah since when did people who write about and cover certain subjects become "journalists" I mean like that's like calling a soccer player a football player or an athlete... Lulz

I think Tiffany Michelle was a pokernews reporter when she raised $10k and went deep in the WSOP main event about 6 years ago.

If you work for a "poker magazine" and you write a very positive article about a poker pro who is sponsored by an online poker site, which happens to be a major advertiser for your magazine, how can you call yourself an "independent journalist"?

I think her Boss Tony G kicked down the 10k
It was Tony G and Jeffrey Lisandro and maybe one other. I would know, as I was there for it. When she made the final 27 I was ordered to do an interview on her, and then the next day all the shit with her signing with UB happened. A lot about that never made it out either.

Honestly Tiffany really screwed Pokernews on that one.

Tony and Jeff bought her in simply to be nice, and all she had to do was wear Pokernews gear throughout the event. This was NOT done because Tiff was expected to make it on TV on run deep, as both were considered unlikely. Well, she luckboxed through most of the field, and them UB came knocking. This was already post-scandal.

She took off the Pokernews clothes and replaced them with UB. Tony claims that he had in fact negotiated a better deal with Pokerstars for her (of which Stars likely was going to give him commission), but she didn't want to hear it. I actually believe him, as she was believing all of the lofty promises from UB and how they would make her a huge star.

Basically Tony's money was good when she needed a buyin but when it came to honoring the commitment to wear the gear, suddenly she forgot who put her there in the first place.

What was Kevmath supposed to say? "Hey, thanks for the $10k gift, but I'm going to have to decline"? It's not like Kevmath was soliciting this. Other players did this all on their own as a 'thank-you' for all Kevmath does for the community.

Poker media and players are essentially one big incestuous family lets be honest. The lines cross back and forth a fair amount. Oddly enough the same can be said of a fair amount of even main stream sports coverage... Years ago the beat reporters were out drinking and smoking with the guys they covered back in the day (Im sure Son of Lockman can verify this with his plethora of knowledge. Nowadays as print media has faded and sports are covered nearly around the clock primarily in TV and online format along with the draw of former players into the new sports reporting model as color commentators and to offer "the jocks/former jocks perspective" Id dare say if anything its probably gotten worse as many teams have hired former players from their teams to be local media and announcers/color and the true national media of sports journalism itself has gone down hill significantly in quality. (Hey Hockey guy you can verify this but isn't EJ Hradek one of the most hated hockey analysts on ESPN and nationwide).

My point is most avg joe's view sports media in general anymore, with somewhat of a disdain as either washed up jocks or guys who couldn't do shit in sports in real life thus they went into the only thing they could which was sports journalism and jock sniff for a living (Jewdonk loves that phrase so I threw it in just for him).. I know he and I have had a few moments of visceral disgust but Im over it. Hope he's enjoy Baja Cali, I do when I can being close enough in AZ now to Puerto Penasco and Los Algodones.

I'm from Canada & ESPN isn't really a big thing up here. I wouldn't even know who that was if he didn't host NHL Live on the NHL network sometimes & he doesn't come up in conversation in Canada like, ever. He does color for the Islanders doesn't he?

That being said, I've never understood the hand-wringing & obsession viewers have about how bad they perceive some of these analysts to be. I know what's happening on the ice & don't need some guy to tell me. They all say stupid shit sometimes so I don't get worked up about it & actually watch a lot of hockey games with no sound or very low.

Hradek mostly posts on ESPN if he pops up on NHL network as he is apt to do I usually mute him.. I know TSN is the sports net up there.. Honestly much like baseball I prefer to watch it similarly or with the radio feed because it just seems to be better..

I was like who the fuck is Earl Burton?

Earl has written about poker, its participants, its politics and its growth over the past 10 years and is one of the most highly respected poker journalists in the game today.
