Martinez/Cotto tonight. Like Sergio -205 straight. If the knee holds up his size will be too much.
Small stab at the ITD +280, too.
Vasquez jr -160 for the undercard.
Tonalist in Belmont.

Tonalist was an excellent call. I made almost a grand on the Belmont betting him to win and the Tonalist-Commissioner exacta. What a faggot Steve Coburn is. I'm glad his horse got beat.
Martinez is obviously done. Shame about the knee. Cotto will not beat Canelo if he fights him or certainly GGG, who I cannot believe they would fight. In fact, I wouldn't take Cotto against any top middleweight. Still, big win for a great fighter and cool guy. I was actually at the fights, which was pretty awesome. First time at a live fight in years and first-ever really big fight. The Garden was pretty "electric" during the main event, that's for sure. Very disappointing fight as far as I'm concerned, though. Real let-down.
I was pretty happy that he lost, too, after that asshole went on his rant. Knee jerk reaction, but he's gotta be smarter than that.
Cotto at MSG is up there as one of the best atmospheres in the sport. I bet it was pretty bad ass. Very cool that you got to be there.
Basically the exact opposite of what I thought would happen, lol. Even knowing that the big question mark was Martinez knee, I still felt pretty confident that he wouldn't be in there if he weren't ready to go. Ah well. I like Cotto and he did what he needed to do.
I agree that he doesn't beat Canelo or GGG. I wouldn't mind seeing either, though. I want GGG to get his name out there. He needs a high profile fight. I don't think they'll be jumping to put Cotto in with GGG.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Cotto/Mayweather 2. Catch weight of like 156 or something.
I would like to see him fight Canelo, who would dominate him, but I would not like to see him fight GGG, because I wouldn't want to see Cotto die. The only fights that really make any sense for him at this point are Mayweather, Pacquiao and Canelo, and only the Canelo fight seems likely. Mayweather is possible, I guess, but weight difference between Cotto and Pac would probly make that fight impossible.
Hex, you have anything on this Lomachenko/Russell Jr. fight?
I bet Russell Jr at +155. Having watched both Loma's pro fights, I'm just having a hard time figuring out how his style is going to translate from the AM's to the Pro's. Probably in large part due to the fact that they've got him in world title fights, 2 fights into his pro career. Russell Jr has sick, sick hand speed. And brittle, brittle hands, lol. I do think he looks incredibly skilled, though. Albeit against very limited opposition.
Also curious if you have an opinion on Gamboa/Crawford. I think Crawford can out box Gamboa, but he's a 2/1 favorite, and I don't wanna lay it. I figure he's probably closer to like -130ish, but Gamboa is off a long layoff.
These are like the two most interesting fights of the year for me - real fight-fan fights, no doubt. Both are very hard to pick, obv especially Russell-Lomachenko. I was pretty shocked that either fight was made - when I heard that they were mandatories, I assumed neither would actually happen.
If I have to pick a winner of tonight's fight, I would take Russell, though it's really just a guess. At +155 he's clearly the better bet, but it's very hard to have any confidence in a guy who never fought anyone, even if he has about the best hand speed I've ever seen. It's pretty amazing to me that Russell's people would think he should fight a guy like Lomachenko before he ever fought anyone decent, and it's pretty amazing to me that Lomachenko's people think it's a good idea to throw their guy in with a freak of nature like Russell in his third pro fight coming off a loss to Orlando Salido. I thought Lomachenko deserved a draw in that fight, however, and that he fought very well considering the circumstances, especially in the second half of the fight. Bottom line is that this is about as hard a fight to call as you can find, and I can't wait to see it. Either way, though, you're betting the right side.
You have to pick Terrence Crawford against Gamboa - he's apparently the best lightweight in the world, although that means very little at the moment. Crawford is my kind of fighter for sure, and it's pretty hard to be into Gamboa, especially at this point. He has seemingly regressed as a fighter, has been inactive and is also a drug cheat (allegedly). But he's also one of the fastest fighters in the world (remember a few years ago when Russell and Gamboa were the two best prospects in the sport, mostly due to their ridiculous speed?) and is undefeated, and it sure wouldn't be a shock to see him beat Crawford. However, Crawford should obviously be favored, though minus 200 seems too much. At those odds, I would take Gamboa, but I feel way better betting Russell as a dog than Gamboa. As in the Russell fight, I don't really understand why Gamboa's people would think it was smart to suddenly throw him in with a guy like Crawford at this point. There's no doubt that Crawford is better prepared for a challenge like this at this stage of his career (he's been active, for one thing), and I think he'll find a way to win. I'll certainly be rooting for him.
Vasyl Lomachenko is no TBA, amirite? It's hard to imagine a worse-managed career than Gary Russell's. Lomachenko is gonna be a very good champion.
Man, his movement was spot on in that fight. It was really something to watch. Punch placement is a thing to beauty to watch, too. I doubt there's a Salido rematch, due to weight, but I could still see Salido beating him again, unless Loma does something about those periods of inactivity he seems to have, every other round.
I had Loma winning it clearly. I think 116-112. I had it closer than a lot of people because I'm just not going to award him a round for firing off combinations for 30 seconds of a 3 minute round.
Russell may actually be all flash/no substance. Sure, it looks pretty throwing those blazing fast punches, but when they - A) aren't landing. And B) have NOTHING behind them, they aren't going to do much good.
I believe Canelo will beat Lara. I think that his greater power and aggressiveness, better chin and underrated defense will be too much for Lara to handle. Canelo has never faced a boxer like Lara, but Lara has never been in the ring with someone like Canelo either. I admire Canelo for wanting to fight the best, but just like in the Trout fight I don't think his people would put him in the ring with this guy if they didn't feel he could beat him. I see Canelo taking control by mid-fight and possibly getting a late knockout. I would say the odds I've seen, with Lara at about +150, are pretty close to correct. Lara at that price or even slightly better is a fairly good bet, but def not a great one. Psyched about the fight. Shame about the undercard, as usual. The fight I'm looking forward to most other than the main event (the excellent Tomoki Kameda defending his bantamweight title) is on regular Showtime at 7:30, not even on the PPV, which is dumbazz.
You know how high I am on Lara. I think if he can fight at range, he can out box Canelo and win a decision. The problems I see for Canelo are that I don't believe he's going to be able to do his usual fighting in spurts and be successful. I think he needs to up his aggression, which will bring into play, his (lack of) stamina. However, I'm constantly reminded of the Lara/Angulo fight, and how often Lara ended up with his back to the ropes. Granted, Angulo had to walk through fire to get there, but when he got there, he did damage. If Canelo is able to close the distance, and pin Lara to the ropes/in the corner, he's going to land consistently, and he's going to knock Lara the fuck out. Also a concern, is how often Lara gets touched by the left hook. If he doesn't pick that hand up, and Canelo starts to land his left hook, Lara is in for a beating.
I like Lara at +190. If he's able to settle in, and box at range, I think he can bank several rounds while Canelo waits to get going. But then, a big issue is the judging. Canelo arguably lost every round to Mayweather, and still managed a draw on one of the cards. Lara beat the pants off Paul Williams, and was robbed for his effort.
Mauricio Herrera -140.
Francisco Vargas -120.
Vargas/Lopez "Won't Go Distance" -140.
laaame all i have is this Jul 12 24801 E LARA +185
7:00 PM 24802 S ALVAREZ -245
Jul 12 24803 OVER ROUNDS (LARA/ALVAREZ) o9½-330
7:00 PM 24804 UNDER ROUNDS (LARA/ALVAREZ) u9½+230
is it dumb to put a thousand on the over or do these nerds have the ability to knock each other out
Lara at +190 is quite good - I didn't know that price was available. You make good points as usual, but I still don't think Lara can do it. I really believe that despite Lara's great boxing skills, Canelo is a better fighter overall and for sure is more durable, which will likely be a big factor in this fight.
I really like the two Vargas bets. JuanMa is about to finally be done at this level - he's getting KO'd.
Yeah, that Lara bet isn't a comfortable one. I just think it's closer to a pick'em fight, so the +190 (5dimes) is where the value is. I worry about Lara's weaknesses, because they happen to play nicely into Canelo's strengths.
I think the line being so low on Vargas is an overreaction to his lack of opposition, and the overreaction to JuanMa knocking Ponce out.
LOL Boxing is sfrigged.
How do you have 115-113 each way then 117-111.
I would have liked to have seen the fight scored a draw - I didn't want to see either guy win or lose, really. I thought Canelo won by a couple of points, but Lara by a couple is also a reasonable score. Definitely a tough fight to score. Lara is a pure runner who could never have a following with his incredibly un-crowd-pleasing style (Rigondeaux is WAY more interesting to watch and clearly a better fighter), and both guys were relatively unimpressive to me. With Lara's style you have to throw way more punches than he was able to, and with all the chances Lara gave him by staying on the ropes and not punching, Canelo had no real idea what to do with him. Both guys needed to let their hands go a lot more than they did. As a result, it was a pretty ugly and fairly boring fight, other than the drama of the fact that it was theoretically the two best junior middles in the world in a close fight. I'm gonna go out on a limb right now and say that Demetrius Andrade is actually the best junior middle in the world and would beat either of these guys. I would love it if he could get that shot.
Great article about Mayweather.

Maybe after Mayweather beats Maidana for the second time, Oscar De La Hoya should come out of retirement and challenge Mayweather to a rematch. They'll make a killing.

I read that. Hell of a fighter. Not so much in the human being department. But he's the only one under this kind of microscope. Most of these guys aren't upstanding citizens. Diego Corrales beat up women. But he's hailed as a saint because he died in a motorcycle wreck where his blood alcohol level was 3 times the legal limit. Arturo Gatti (Who I loved to watch) was known to beat up his wife from time to time. Manny Pacquiao cheats on his wife and knocks up his mistress. But they don't/didn't flaunt their arrogance in our faces and make people dislike them the way Mayweather does.
Gotta separate the fighter from the human. I don't get involved in too much of the outside the ring aspects of their lives, because there's a reason to dislike damn near all of them. I appreciate the skill, and the fact that there's no surer bet in sports, than Floyd Mayweather by decision.
