There's an interesting dichotomy here between the apparent soft-peddling or ignoring of the story by a lot of outlets, and the fact that it's a smallish theft. I find it hard to crucify someone over $700, but as thefts go, this is a very despicable $700 example. Stealing someone else's tips is only a couple of ticks less obnoxious than stealing money out of a charity jar.

He has been there since the early days, so what are the chances that he is being caught on his first try? Who knows how long he has been doing this, so it could be significantly more than "only" $700...
