No. That's actually a folk story told by Bronze Age goat herders.

And the Xerxes that was portrayed in the 300 was based on Frank Millers comic book, not history. In which case, they did a fantastic job of sticking to the intellectual property, err.. folk story told by silicon age bards.

Cyrus the Great is the Persian king that rollo is referring to I believe.

I wasn't denying that the king of Persia existed. I was saying that the story part didn't happen.

    From your page-

"This Babylonian document has been interpreted as referring to the return to their homelands of several displaced cultural groups, one of which could have been the Jews"

"The historical nature of this decree has been challenged. Professor Lester L Grabbe argues that there was no decree but that there was a policy that allowed exiles to return to their homelands and rebuild their temples. He also argues that the archaeology suggests that the return was a "trickle" taking place over perhaps decades, resulting in a maximum population of perhaps 30,000."

The Battle of Thermopylae actually happened, so it's not a folk story. The comic and the movie fuck up a few important things. But overall the true story is amazing and they got the gist of it.

Don't worry Darius, i'm not a Thermopylae denier. The comic book is the folk story I was referring to, not the actual history. I just can't believe I had to outline it for you. I suppose it's possible that you just didn't know that it was taken from that comic. And yeah, even as an outline, they got what is known of the event pretty well down.

you seem to buy into the idea that the Battle of Themopylae was indeed historically accurate, when in fact it was probably a GROSS exaggeration of the actual event. History is written by the winners and the ancient greek historians are known for their embellishment since it obviously defies common sense that 300 spartans could fend off 5 MILLION persians (according to the ancient greeks, obviously bs).

The real story is that 1,200 Greeks fought against around 125,000 men and held them off long enough to cover their army's retreat. That's pretty astonishing. People embellish the details to make the story more entertaining.

One of Xerxes's emissaries was actually thrown into a giant pit. But that happened in Athens.

The Dark Tower is going to be a movie. The Gunslinger will be played by Matthew McConaughey, which I think is a decent pick.
