Wasnt Okami like top 10 possibly 5?It's not that they are useless in your argument, it is that they are useless in every sense. The fact that the UFC has cut ranked fighters on the past is evidence enough of this, I'd think.
They are voted on by the media, and the UFC has made it clear over and over that the rankings mean nothing when it comes to matchmaking and/or title shots. I'm pretty sure Dana has outright called them meaningless once or twice, but no matter anyway. Those rankings are strictly for appearance purposes, to look more like a real sport, to give Fox some sort of number to throw next to a fighter's name, and to give the UFC one more little thing they can hold over/deny access to media members.
As far as cutting young fighters, you have it a little backwards, I think. Dana is less willing to cut established stars who would be notable draws in other organizations. Dana would have zero problem cutting a young promising fighter after a pair of shitty losses, or a shitty win and a bad loss, because he knows he's ALWAYS gonna be able to get them back.

I was only trying to point out Dana is not releasing the #3 ranked Welterweight anytime soon due to his skill + age. I don't care if he lays around for 3 rounds, he is not being booted from the UFC for that. If GSP loses is Dana going to release him due to his "boring" fights ...and by boring I mean the average joe watching it doesn't like it.

Sure they cut ranked fighters all the time. However it's either due to behavior, drugs, contract disputes or a losing streak where they're pushed down out of the top 5.

Just one day after it was officially announced that light heavyweight champ Jon Jones would next defend his title at UFC 170 Feb. 22 in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White revealed that Jones had pulled out of the bout. The champion is not injured, however, according to White.

Looked pretty fuckin good for a 20 year old. Wasn't in major danger at all, put some big hurt on his opponent at different times, easily deserved the decision win, and you say he was exposed? What in God's name did you expect to happen, a 30 second KO?
His short notice opponent gassed half way through the fight. Many people had him losing on score cards. That's probably the easiest fight in ufc he's ever going to get. Pettis was expected to destroy this guy??

dude wins unanimous decision in the UFC when many fighters can't keep their composure during their first octagon fight with much, much more experience than Sergio. LOLexposaments. He was expected to win, sure, and he did. You say its gonna be his easiest UFC fight, but he's also gonna be getting better every fight. If you think he was exposed, your expectations were outrageous, and I'd love to know just what parts of him were exposed.
