Just to play Devils advocate here... Is there a chance someone else could have passed by your truck when you couldn't see it and stole your phone? You just said yourself there was a point in time when you couldn't see your truck. If it was parked far back in a driveway somewhere where people wouldn't walk by it then it's understandable that he is the main suspect, but if the truck was close to where there are passerby's then the possibilities open up in a big way.

Well, this makes this guy an even bigger dumbass considering the ONLY possibility was him stealing it. By what you are saying there was no way a person could have walked by, or some kid riding a bike rode by, happened to look in your truck and saw a phone there for the taking. Also, no chance at all that this neighbor who saw the guy sprint to his car is possibly a clepto who couldn't resist a free phone, or that other neighbors could have been tempted the same way. By what you are saying the ONLY conclusion could be that you either accidentally left your phone somewhere or this guy, who was the only person around, stole it. Not really good planning on his part, but in the grand scheme of things if it definitely was him it looks as if he is going to get away with it.

It's a longshot, but it's better advice than doing something really bad to the guy without knowing for sure that he actually stole it.

I am trying to comprehend how dumb a person could be to do this being that there were only 2 fucking people there. I am guessing he thought I wouldn't notice until later on, and him thinking I would think I could have lost it anywhere at that point. What makes me think this is it started pouring down raining as we were finishing up, and we were rushing all over the place to get done. I think again he thought we would pack up quick and jet out of there with me not realizing it was gone.

I had him doing something that required him to be around the truck, so it was a perfect opportunity for him to swipe it real fast. And again the truck was 150 yds away and there was a huge house in between me and it.

I should have just called the cops right there but I just wasn't thinking clearly. That and the fact that I pretty much despise all police and the thought of ever calling them for anything just doesn't register in my brain. I would probably have the phone right now if I did.

This fucker keeps texting me and I think I am going to just tell him I have been advised not to talk to him LOL. That should send his mind racing a little bit, but this shit aint over believe that.

If you're 100% that it was him, make some shit up like you think it was him and are currently in the process of 'reviewing the security tapes' for confirmation, will turn them over to police if need be etc. Even if it was from a location that clearly does not or could not have been recorded, a guilty party would almost certainly confess at this point if they thought their goose was cooked without considering the implausibility.

I knew he had borderline racist anti-Obama shit on his Facebook profile so I combed through it when I got back home, found a comment where he referred to Chicago as 'chimptown' and made a complaint to his employer. He was fired the following Monday and made an angry ALL CAPS post about someone fucking with his livelihood and bemoaning freedom of speech etc. His current Facebook ramblings suggest that he is still struggling and was worried about the shutdown affecting his welfare, shit makes me smile every time.

It's also easy to fuck up someone's car quickly and discreetly, fuck with family members etc. Have fun.

Yeah I tried to gather as much info as I could before I let him know what the deal was. Unfortunately he doesn't have a facebook page, but if it came to it I can track him down. His girl does, and he doesn't know I have her name from his phone or even know about that. So maybe I will monitor that page and see if I can grab something for later use. He has a VERY recognizable car, I know the area he lives in and I know about where family members live.

I tried searching the court records to get some more but there are so many "Moore" last names (I got like 157 results) it is going to be hard to figure out which one is him. He told me he is 30, and I would bet my life he has a record of some sort so that narrows the birthdate down but still tough to pick him out of all those names.

Just calling it a day pretty much at this point, lesson learned. But in 15 years of business never had this happen before, usually when you give people a job they are grateful especially in the last 5 years with the economy.

I will tell you one thing that is kind of ironic. I was contemplating bringing him to my house to do work...literally the day before this happened. Kept going back and forth about how well I know him...can I trust him etc. I came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be a good idea, and thank God because he could have gotten me a lot worse.
